The Summer 2025 Transfer Window Thread

RAN might go, but he’s absolutely nowhere near Liverpool standards based upon this years showing. A way off the consistent levels of a top performer.

Might have fallen victim of believing his own hype - we rarely get a 90 minute solid performance out of him and his numbers in terms of goals and assists is lower than it should be for a semi-attacking player.

An absolute talent no doubt and capable of world class moments but doesn’t do it anywhere near often enough for a really top team to take a punt and shell out big dollars.

He's just been badly miscast as a defender, IMV.

The one good idea O'Neil ever had was to let Rayan drift inside as a kind of faux-#10, and I thought he was brilliant at that. Give him a run of games at LW, I say (or RW so he can cut inside).

He has more assists than Cunha. Only Bellegarde has more assists in this Wolves team. He is our third highest scorer. He has the same number of goal involvements as Trent Alexander Arnold. That’s in a team operating at the bottom of the league all season.

Semedo has more assists. He didn't get given the assist at Bournemouth where Munetsi was given it. Which was clearly nonsense, it was Semedo's all day.

Ah, the Lee Naylor argument.

He is a left back, he has kept Mo Salah quiet on multiple occasions.

And I once saw Ivan Piris pocket Lionel Messi for a full match.

I don’t think he’s a good defender, he may have good games defensively on occasion but it isn’t nearly often enough for me.

He's not just a left back though is he?
He has been used by various managers in different roles.
When playing as a more defensive player, he has kept Salah quiet as you say. However, when he has been used to support the attack in the past, he leaves us vulnerable because, often times, he will wander and be slow to get back when we inevitably lose the ball. Under the current manager, he is more restricted in certain games but still free to go forward. Thankfully, he is no longer wandering all over teh field as he was under GON for a time.

One thing I have noticed is his body language at times recently hasn't been great and that maybe because of the more restricted role and the new expectation placed on him. For me, he's at a crossroads in his career. He has the talent but doe he have the aptitude to learn and to listen to his new manager and then do what is asked or does he still want to continue to do things his way as it appears to me he does?

All that said, he can be a lovely silky footballer with tremendous skill. I do love watching him when he is in full flow rather than a regular clogger left back. If he can just learn to release the ball more quickly, then he can improve significantly.

Shaun Newton kept Cristiano Ronaldo in his pocket at Molineux once.

A good evening trying out the Perfect Draft machine?
I just don’t think anyone offers what we want for either of them, and I also don’t think either of them push for a move.

Cunha will definitely go - then we’ve got the likes of Semedo & Sarabia leaving at the end of their contracts & in turn, freeing up a big chunk of wages. I’m at the head of the queue when it comes to slagging Jeff Shi & Matt Hobbs off, but I don’t think even they are stupid/incompetent enough to then go flog the only other 2-3 remaining players with any value in the same window (and decimating the squad at the same time). You never know, though!

In terms of players still in contract, I think it's Cunha and RAN and that's it

Andre goes I think. He actually gets in any side in this league and makes them better, and we'll accept £50m. Hobbs will get a pay rise and we'll get in another two or three £15m signings from Brazil and hope to repeat the process
