The Summer 2025 Transfer Window Thread

United aren’t going to be shit forever and it’s Man United. He should go there and will fit Amorims system well. No point going to Forest, they aren’t giving him a big contract and have just as much chance being midtable next season. None of the other traditional big 6 will want him / pay for him.

As with all our ex-players and Nuno, my preference is for them to piss off out of the PL entirely 😅 but at least Man U are an actual big club and that would make sense career-wise.

Shame we have the £62.5 in his contract though as we miss out on Utd transfer tax

I don't think United have that kind of money unless they win the Europa League and therefore have Champions League income next season.

Is there a chance he goes to Saudi?
I’d say no. Just for the fact of he supposedly wants to challenge for titles and big prizes etc. Saudi doesn’t tick those boxes.

That being said being offered 500k a week can override those boxes.

Personally I see him at United. Fits the 2 10’s Amorim wants to play, and even in this current guise United are still united. If they finish top 4/6 or win a cup and he plays well he almost becomes a hero given the disaster of this year, if they produce more of the same (I don’t think they will) he earns 200k plus on a 5 year deal

Yeah Utd are utterly fucked financially as far as I know. Unless they sell Garnacho/Rashford/Mainoo for big money that will count as 100% profit they’ll struggle to spend much this summer.

Clubs that size always find a way, selling the training ground to Ineos or something similar. Look at Chelsea

I just can't see him being a massive hit if he goes to the traditional top 6.
They ain't gonna massage his ego.

Would personally love to see a circa 30/40m and Neto deal with Chelsea, but Neto would never agree.

Is it really that hard for people to believe that Cunha can really like it here and yet still have bigger ambitions?

He’s made some stupid mistakes but not once (that I can recall) has he directly disrespected the club or supporters. Without him, we’re not in the PL this season in the first place.

He deserves better treatment than he’s getting, IMV.

What kind of treatment are you referring to?

It hasn't been directed at him personally (yet) but some of the things people are saying are totally over the top. How surprised would you be really if people start booing him on Sunday if the game isn't going our way?

It's like the jealous boyfriend demeaning his partner because he can feel the end of their relationship coming and can't do anything about it.

Comments about his education, his ego; even holding the PR against him feels iffy.

It seems perfectly reasonable to me that he might genuinely want to win titles here, but that's just not going to happen, is it. And if he sticks it out with us, that could be his chance at the "big time" gone. You have to take the money when it's on the table; it's getting spent whether on him or someone else.

Yeah I see what you mean, your first paragraph contains some fair pushbacks.

i don't think he's above some narrative manipulation though, with his new contract and the 'out of context' interviews, and I don't blame people for not finding him particularly likeable (though I wouldn't go that far myself)

Saying he should be frozen out or the booing scenario Lycan raised are ridiculous however, as you say he's still contributed massively while he's been with us

I think a lot of his issues are his representatives rather than him directly, although he does need to take some ownership of that. The openly hawking him around and media drops in January, the posting of the image of him scoring the goal at Bournemouth moments after we'd lost and he'd be sent off for stupidity and the following up with something along the lines of it was for the true fans. The interview during the last International break that the club knew nothing about and wasn't part of the normal Brazilian media duties, where he may or not have been quoted out of context. All that was unnecessary. That's before you get to any of the subjective stuff around attitude and performance

I guess it shows how far charisma can get you; that all isn’t far off Julen’s antics, and he can get fucked.

I suppose I’ve just not seen or heard anything that makes me feel that Cunha thinks he’s “bigger than the club” or whatever. It’s a bit of a reach, and my memory is shit, but I can’t recall him ever scoring and his celebration not playing to the supporters. Never any pointing to his name, no RoJo kicking the side board; he’s always interacting with the fans.

Dunno. I’m a sucker for him, I suppose.

Yep, he's an entertainer, and we'll miss him. Pity we didn't sign him when the club was more settled
