The Summer 2025 Transfer Window Thread

I don't think Vitor rates Hwang at all.

Not started since mid-January at Newcastle in the league and not made it off the bench at all in the last three games.

We won't get Marseille's £20m for him but I'd happily take half that and move on.
To be fair anyone who's actually seen Hwang play probably doesn't rate him. He had a purple patch last season, but overall he's fucking rubbish.

To be fair, most people don't watch players from other teams that closely. To pick out an example from yesteryear, look at the reaction of Stoke fans when they signed Olofinjana. Thought they were getting an absolute beast of a midfielder and reckoned we were only laughing to compensate for them "taking our best player". They cottoned on soon enough.

Doherty's multiple fatal flaws got ignored because he scored a lot of points on the Fantasy Premier League game. What a deal, £15m for a goalscoring wing back! Released for free after two and a bit years.

You could easily put together a goals compilation for Hwang which makes him look good. And while we (as a club, not us here) massively overplay his commercial appeal (it definitely isn't worth keeping him regardless of what he does/doesn't do on the pitch), he does offer something there.

We can’t get rid of him, we’d be losing multi millions in income from all the Koreans buying tickets and buying tat from the club shop, then there’s the wider tourism impact on Wolverhampton, less hotel rooms being booked and so on

We really need at least 2 competent forwards to replace Cunha and give us options, can't rely solely on JSL for the whole season. Hwang and Guedes need to be gone.
Sasa still has two years left on his deal...

Adds to Vitor's credibility as a manager for me.

Maybe he can host them and take them on tours of the ground and the City of Wolverhampton then? He has no other use.

As good a thread as any to discuss - do we think he's going to be backed in the summer? The squad still needs a lot of new signings, and that's not with Semedo and Cunha gone.

GK situation is a mess, we need someone better than Sa but already have 25 keepers on the books. What's one more?

CB we probably need at least one other since Santi isn't really fit for purpose and we don't know what we'll get from Mosquera.

Semedo replacement is going to be hard to get imo, there's definitely no one in the squad. Hopefully HBueno comes back so there's competition for RAN if he has bad form, if he doesn't return then we need a backup.

Mids at least for this year is fine I think with Andre, Gomes and Bellegarde. Traore and Muntesi should be enough cover.

Wings (or deep forwards in VP's system) I have no idea what to make of what we have. Players we have now are leaving (Cunha/Sarabia) or out of position (Muntesi/Bellegarde). Ideally needs another starter, maybe two if RGomes gets played more as a wingback.

JSL is finally the striker we needed post Raul, but really needs to have a backup that isn't Hwang or Guedes.

tl;dr there's a lot of squad turnover needed, and remain skeptical Shi will give VP the backing needed with required signings.

Doubt well get any more CBs unless Santi is sold and even then it's not a priority.
CM depends if we either Gomes or Andre get sold.
WBs also depends if RAN leaves, think Rodrigo is probably ready to step up, doubt Lima is. I wonder if Semedo could be persuaded to sign a one year contract on slightly less wages? We're gunna be saving a lot on Cunha's, probably Sarabia's wages so it might be possible.
The big issue is acquiring a couple of forwards to replace Hwang and Guedes.
So, yes Vitor will need funds and realistically it needs to be close to what we get in.

Majority of the work/funds will be spent in the wide forward areas.

We’ll definitely need another RWB/RB as/when Semedo goes.

Johnstone will go, but I reckon Sa will stay. And tbf, I think he’s improved under Vitor & cut a lot of the silliness out.

Sa is a tricky one I think, he's a bomb scare with the ball at his feet but I doubt we'd get a better shot stopper for the money we'd want to spend, also he's decent under the high ball.
Other downsides are he's a bit of a prick at times and a bit flakey. Personally I'd rather see the money spent up front, it's by far our weakest area when Cunha's gone.

New goalkeeper + Sa
Hugo back + Rodrigo, keep Semedo if poss. Sell Ran if it's really good money.
Back line make the best out of what we have now, yerson, mayepaiou, etc, and santi off if good money.
Midfield, sell Doyle, buy no one.
Matheus gone, two new wide players, plus decent back up for jsl if sasa is fucked.
Sell hwang, guedes, and sarabia gone anyway.
