The Summer 2024 Transfer Thread.

Wolverhampton Wanderers are ready to battle Leeds United for the signing of Norwich City wide forward Jonathan Rowe, according to journalist Darren Witcoop.

Rowe enjoyed a fruitful 2023/24 campaign, netting 13 goals in 38 appearances in all competitions for the Canaries. An impressive season on a personal level has inevitably sparked interest from a number of clubs, with Leeds said to have made a £7 million bid for the England under-21 international.
However, Wolves are expected to rival the Whites for the 21-year-old's signature, as head coach Gary O'Neil looks to add more firepower to his front line. The West Midlands outfit may also be bracing themselves for a bid for star winger Pedro Neto, who is a target for Tottenham, with interest in Rowe a potential sign of succession planning.
While Leeds have made an initial bid, the allure of top flight football may give Wolves an advantage in the race to land the Norwich star.

With regard to Guedes , people need to remember that right now he's looking for a contract to play football , somewhere , anywhere - preferably in Spain / Portugal one assumes .
He therefore needs to impress between the beginning of Pre season and end of August . That's it - once he has the contract secured he can settle back into his old ways .
PS.....I am aware that he has a contract still at Wolves , but if he was to pussy foot around in pre season , O' Neil could shift him off to the U 21 s very easily - just like Fabio right now .
Guedes knows what he is doing - make an impression for 2 months in every year is all he needs to do it would appear when you consider the clubs who have taken him on .

Who is reporting that?

Few journalists yesterday who broke the news Leeds had bid for him also said rumours that Wolves are interested were denied.

From what I’ve seen of Rowe (limited, admittedly) he looks more than worth a punt at the suggested £7m fee. And would fit GON’s versatility across the frontline requirement.

Reminded me a little bit of Jarrod Bowen when he was at Hull - and that didn’t turn out too bad.

Whether we actually need him in another argument entirely, I guess though.

If they are going to let Podence and Chiquinho go, they will probably be able to get Rowe for similar money that those two generate, if not gain a small profit and it will also be a plus for the home grown quota so could easily see that happening.

I've witnessed GG give performances where he might as well not be on the pitch. In that kind of mood, he wouldn't offer anything different/better than Nathan Fraser.

If his attitude is sorted, then fair enough but if we have the stroppy GG I would rather play an untested kid, at least they would give a shit we lost.

Guedes has always been like that though, even Valencia & Villarreal fans said he was either 9/10 or 2/10 very rarely anything in between.

You're going to get the same from Chiquinho. Incredibly athletic and skillful but nowhere near enough consistency.

Basically a shorter, less consistent Yannick Bolasie.

Those 9/10 days must be rarer than a Steve Corica tackle.

His career is one long con job. Chiquinho can cross a ball and beat a man, that's two things Guedes can't do straight away.

Guedes can definitely beat a man and Chiquinho's crossing is absolutely wild most of the time and like I said a few days ago, nobody scores from deep crosses anyway

If we’re judging by who deserves the chance more it’s probably Chiqi on youth and attitude alone.

Guedes had his chance in the full squad.

Podence scores more, Chiquinho will assist more (already has done), both of those are behind Cunha, Neto, Rodrigo, Hwang and Sarabia. And arguably Bellegarde.

There isn't any place here for Guedes, he's a fucking bum.

A reminder that as it stands we have 1 player we cannot register and are probably going to sign a foreign centre half, so 2 of the 3 need to go.

Not all about who deserves it though unfortunately.

Neither of them are good enough to make a massive impact on our first XI really.

They'd probably play different positions as well so it's hard to compare but with Guedes if he leaves it'll inevitably be on loan at a loss to the club. Chiquinho seems to have a few clubs interested in signing him so would actually generate a decent fee.

I’d prefer the human perspective won out, although of course that isn’t how it actually works.

Never heard of him to be honest but from his highlights he looks very 'Bolyesque' with that calm, long limbed style.
