The Road to World Cup 2026 and UEFA Nations League

Good comeback by Italy but won’t be enough

Good comeback by Italy but won’t be enough
Like the first leg, a game of 2 halves. Wasn't expecting that comeback as Italy were worse than abject in the first half. Was disappointed he took off Tonali and Kean (can't believe I'm saying that but best game I've seen him have)

Bloody ell mard arse, it was meant to be a bit tongue in cheek but go on, two pints of Guinness and knowing all the words to ‘Molly Malone’.
Oh, just in case, 😉
Lots of people seem a bit tetchy atm, I put it down to no Wolves related football performances to communally moan about😁

Yeah, I hate International break weekends when there’s no decent live football unless you’re into the WSL which and with the greatest respect to those who are, I ain’t.

It's not as bad as I remember it actually. Only these 4 stand out although McAteer and Cascarino weren't qualified at all.

John Aldridge
Tony Cascarino
Andy Townsend
Jason McAteer

Aldridge always says he had no affinity for England at all. He would have chosen Ireland ahead of England as he followed Ireland and not England as his family was mostly Irish.

He was on the latest episode of Undr The Cosh - worth a listen.

Ireland looked decent again tonight after going a goal down vs Bulgaria.
The team look coherent, well drilled and most of all - confident. The new manager has brought in a more attacking style, that seems to suit a lot of our players.
He's also brought in a lot of young talent and given them a chance on a big stage. Some good performances from the younger lads over the two legs.
I certainly feel more optimistic about the Irish team than I have in a few years

Magnificent night of Nations League action, shame Italy ran out of time and shame Spain and France won their penalty shootouts but still an exciting evening of football. Pleased Portugal got through

I watched the first half of the Portugal game, inexplicable that Ronaldo still gets any minutes let alone constantly playing 90 minutes. Like a shit Carl Cort.

They always look a better team when he goes off. Ramos, his replacement, scored the goal that wrapped the win up. The little bit I saw kept showing CR7 sat on the bench looking indignant at having been taken off

A game up there with Emlyn Hughes arcade quiz.

I really don’t mind the nations league it’s gives most internationals some kind of relevance, on the whole it pits sides against similar quality. Far more beneficial to the micro states and poorer nations to learn and develop as opposed to being battered constantly.

Two away wins against Finland and Bulgaria as well in that mix . It's slow progress , let's not fool ourselves , and our main weakness is central midfield where we are poor enough and just simply lack quality .
We are though decent enough at the back and up front , it's that bit in the middle.........
The Nations League is good for someone like ourselves . They're far better than friendly matches for one thing and are a decent preparation for a World Cup qualifying campaign .

Not bad. One thing we clearly will get compared to last season is more balance against. People don’t have to rate Rashford (Gordon could be a good option in that role) but it’s obvious he will prioritise the system over shoe horning individuals into the team*

*sometimes England managers go mad like Capello and do the opposite of everything they’d done well in the first place
