The Road to World Cup 2026 and UEFA Nations League

I'd rather have Eze drifting in off that side but it's alright.

And you may as well do away with two nominally holding CMs against opposition like this. Jones is decent but do we need him and Rice against Latvia, probably not.

Gives Foden a kick up the arse too, he has been broadly speaking shite for England.

I'm happy to see Bellingham move back against this type of opposition, then play as the 10 against the stronger nations.

Rashford playing like Charles Charlie Charles (what’s he going to do this time - exactly what he did earlier) whilst Bowen is again proving that he isn’t good enough.

Our crossing from both sides has been low standard. Rashford is trying hard enough but struggling to get his mojo back.

Latvia defending so deep and with a giant goalkeeper, absolutely no margin for error with the cross, has to be pin point.
Be better pulling it back to the edge of the area or firing it in hard and low.

I’ll qualify my comment. Is he a good Premier League player, yes. Is he good enough to play against Latvia, yes. Is he good enough to get into this England Squad - due to injuries, yes.
Is he good enough to be an England starter in a side that you want to be competing at the business end of a major tournament, no. Is he a sub you’d be wanting to get on the pitch when chasing a game - no.
He’s had 6 starts, and 15 caps in total and I think he’s has one reasonable game in that lot.

Good PL and probably a good option off the bench in a big game but don’t think I’d be confident with starting a WC SF.

Thought England played decent in the game. Always difficult against a team doing a low block but picked them apart eventually, the second goal moves the ball quickly for once and beats the Latvian defence. They struggled to organise after. Eze was quite bright, Lewis-Skelly has had a good international break even if I'm not generally keen. Great goal by James and nice for him to play again internationally. Hoping this game is Tuchel learning you can only do one of Bellingham and Foden (and the former is clearly the better option). Can only take so much from this kind of opposition but I don't think there were negatives at least.

Shocker by Joe Allen for Wales and a 90th minute winner for North Macedonia
