The R.I.P. Thread

Or maybe we all have different tastes?

I've been listening to Gunship today. A band almost nobody has heard of and uses synth pop in a rock style. Niche I know and I really don't expect many people to like them.

Hating on Coldplay, how original.

The first album was pretty good, and the second one. Think they got a bit up themselves after that and people started dismissing them musically as their appeal rocketed and Chris Martins ego seemed to get lost in space, and the dreaded middle of the road listeners picked up on them

Mostly hated on by people who believe their musical preferences are in some way more superior to other peoples choice, also see audiophiles most belligerent of posters for hating on undiscernable differences in sound quality to human ears

My music taste is stuck in the 80s and 90s so I don’t think my taste in music is superior to anybody. I do think Coldplay are absolutely shit though, solely because their music is fucking crap. Thanks for compartmentalising me though.

Agree with a lot of this.

Only band I've ever walked out of were The Used. Fuck me, they were fucking abysmal!

In other news, at home have been checking out some stuff I've never really listened to. Been loving The Streets debut album - much better than I thought it would be. Also, never been big into the Manics, but have enjoyed their debut, as well as their greatest hits package quite a bit recently. Intending to give Asian Dub Foundation a listen soon too (saw them as a support band and they were pretty good live).

The last couple of days have been checking out submotion orchestra on spotify. really enjoying them!

edit just seen what thread this is! facepalm!

I like one of The Used tracks. Taste Of Ink I think it's called.

I still listen to Original Pirate Material too. Great album.

Theres really no need to thank me

I think Coldplay are fucking shite. Epically shite.

I don't care if that compartmentalises me. I'm a fucking Slayer fan. I'm used to it.

Is anyone else longing for someone to die so we can get off the Coldplay argument ? :surrender:

I've looked around for cause of death but it hasn't been released yet.

Rest in Peace might be a push for him though...

However, he does have a fan

Mugabe was a bad man yet he helped win his country independence. As we have learned here this week, that's never easy.

Shit - only a bit older than me. Gulp.

Abdul Qadir as mentioned on the cricket thread, has also left us aged 63.

One of my absolute favourites as well.

Whenever DW and I are discussing all time Test XIs in the pub (we do this fairly regularly) I always try and shoe-horn him in ahead of Warne and Muralithiran. I lose the argument, but Abdul puts up a great fight.

Ahh Daniel Johnston such a fucking tortured soul but was great to see him come through shit and get recognition... RiP
