The R.I.P. Thread

Was also a Spectrum kid. 48k to start with then the 3+ with the disk drive.

I'm not a geek though.

48k then a +2 (which I’ve just realised was actually a flipping amstrad) for me.

Zip it, four eyes.

Anyway I don't think at the age of 7 I could have said to my parents "I don't want this computer because I reckon in 30 years I'll think Alan Sugar is a cunt".

+3 was the only spectrum I/we had.
We were also the commodore vic 20.

Acorn Electron...Spectrum and Commodore 64 were above parental budget and they read that it was similar to the BBC Micro that schools used

Clives will become extinct within the next couple of decades. No-one calls their kid Clive any more.

Got a new colleague, my age (so young), called Bernard. Bernard for fuck sake.

The week I get an EV and Clive Sinclair dies.

I didn't have a spectrum but my best mate had a ZX Spectrum and I spent many hours round there, listening to the tape load only to find an error and have to try again. Pretty amazing how things have changed

Bernd is still quite popular in Germany.

The massive tub who did our pub quiz in Hamburg was Bernd. I don't think he appreciated my multiple "Weekend at Bernie's" jokes.

Working my way up to cracking those. He’s going to think I’m great.

I had the 128k with built in datacorder....

We had a Commodore 64 and my mate had a spectrum 48. Many an hour spent on Daley Thompson’s decathlon, football manager and as Quirk says Jet Set Willy. The tape loading frustration should be put into the National curriculum as a history lesson to teach the youngsters of today of how we used to live. They don’t know they are born!

I think I still have boxes and boxes of Spectrum computers and games in my patents lofts. Not seen the light of day for 25 years.

I played Football Manager on the Spectrum so much that the transformer eventually blew up. I'm not sure I've felt such (relative) anguish as i did that day since. My 7 year old mind couldn't cope!

Peter Pack Rat was another obsession.

Wonderboy was my favourite. Tape wore out in the end :(
