The Official World Cup 2018 Megathread

i feel the need to win far far more supporting wolves and maybe our success last season and being in a good spot with the club situation has put paid to any nerves for the timebeing :)

Oh yeah, this has been great, but it's nothing like Wolves. Watching our game against Basel yesterday meant more to me than tonight will.

Can someone phone up Sky and ask how Glasgow is doing. Really do fear for his health today

I'm seriously worried about him. I think that his account has been hacked as a Croatia victory has predicted in the Prediction League and I don't believe for a minute that he would have done such a thing.

All I hope is that we (a) play well and (b) don't lose unluckily or on penalties. On paper we should be favourites, but no result would surprise me. We've done really well and I'm just pleased we're still involved, to be honest. I'll be supporting whoever wins in the final, that's for sure.

I am just so totally relaxed it's a tad scary.
I am so happy at having got this far, so tonight is a win win for me. As long as we give a good account of ourselves then this bunch of kids and the much slated Gareth South gate can come home heads held high, no matter what the score.
However would I love to fuck the French in the final? Does pavlos drink cypro?

I am just really looking forward to it. I think England can win, and are a steady favourite for tonight. Get through this test, and then Sunday would definitely be incredibly nervous.

That reminds me - I should check the train times before I leave work tonight.

Something tells me that there might be an 'unforeseen staff shortage' that everyone who uses the bastard things will have been able to have foreseen since Dele Alli's goal on Saturday afternoon.

Not sure if you've seen it or even if it affects you but Virgin are letting anybody get on any of their services as they've lifted ticket restrictions.

Hey, kept to exactly the same dress that I have work for every England game except the Belgium game.

We are all allowed to wear England Shirts (or any other today) one Nob head in the office has a Croatia top, other than that plenty of England tops.
I have the Russia World Cup t shirt rather than my England Top.... I have a meeting not interview in 20 minutes about a new job as a scrum master, hope the hiring manager is OK with my t shirt.

I am bricking it, will watch the game at home on my own as I have for every game we won, again Belgium I paused it went out with the, missus then restarted.
Fully expect us to lose.

Semi-final defeats can sometimes be the most difficult to accept especially if you fail to do yourself justice. So close to the main prize yet not participating at the main event. Play well and accept your fate.

Didn't know you played Rugby Glasgow

Sadly, no Virgin trains go on my line. At that time of day, it's only West Midlands Trains that run. Or don't, as the case may be.

They have tweeted me back telling me there are no planned delays/cancellations to any service this evening.

Which translates to 'they don't have to tell us they're not working and have every intention of fucking off down the pub rather than coming into work - watch this space, and sharpen your elbows'.

I agree with him. Which is why I avoid the pubs at all cost.

No problem with people getting excited about the World Cup who don't normally care about the game. However, if they then pipe up with bullshit opinions and abuse the players, then it winds me up but I have to say that I've not really witnessed this during this tournament. There was one dickhead shouting tons of crap at Raheem Sterling on Saturday but he was soon drowned out and it didn't spoil the occasion.

I love watching these games in pubs when it's a good atmosphere - the best one for me was watching the Panama game in the hotel bar in Majorca. Awesome atmosphere, everyone having a laugh, even the Scottish tourists in the resort were enjoying it!

I don't get his viewpoint at all. You spend money on something you enjoy, but then feel you're owed more than the thing you've paid for...? Weird.

Not a huge fan of watching in the pub, but I will do so if needs be. Tonight I will watch at home. Should England make it, I haven't made a decision about Sunday yet.

You're aching for that trip to the Pendulum, I can tell...

A big no to England games in the pub for me. Done it dozens of times over the years, the end conclusion is that there are far too many dickheads and it gets far too busy. If it's that or miss the game then obviously I'll do it, but rarely is it ever going to come to that.

He's got superfanitis. The disease which makes certain fans insufferable pricks. It's severity on a sliding scale depends whether they've:
  • Been to an event where the other 8m people witnessed the destruction of a football club/ country (semi-final loss etc)
  • Spent more money in the club/ online shop - bonus points for full kit wanker status
  • Been on pre-season tour/ friendly to some backwater - the backer the water the better for superfan status
  • Got to every home game without fail, even death would not stop them
  • Go to every away game - and lambast others for not doing so, despite ticket allocation or location
  • Had a season ticket for x number of years
  • Supported the club/ country even when they were playing shite
  • Supported the club since it's inception
  • Seen a club/ country legend in action - one that died before most fans were born or TV existed
