The Official World Cup 2018 Megathread

I saw replays this morning that showed it looking like it was just going wide or hitting the post at best. Pickford had to go for it though and it was one hell of a save.

It was a foot inside the post, may have touched the underside of the crossbar

just swinging wide by the look of that. he absolutely couldn't leave it though. can't believe anyone would suggest that.

The very fact some saying in some saying Wide means he had to save it.

We should have defended the corner better. Thought Sterling had a good game, movement wise, i was pleased he tried taking players on, something he does for City he does not do enough for Us.
Thought Henderson was fantastic last night the number of times he intercepted / won the ball back on the half way line was tremendous.
Disappointing going forward, but again Colombia never really came out with any intention of attacking.

One of the commentators said / Tweeted that a Colombian commentator had said

"Don't expect Colombia to come out and play they are scared that England will tear them apart. They wanted the game and result they got.

I think he will bring Loftus-Cheek in for Alli (who did okay but doesn't look fully fit) and then maybe Rose for Young if he is injured.

I think he will keep Sterling in, because he is the person who plays that role best currently out of our options that Southgate thinks he has. I think Loftus-Cheek, Lingard or Alli could play there but he clearly prefers to have them arriving from deeper positions, which I think is fair enough. Rashford did well there in the Costa Rica friendly but is still more of a striker. Agree Sterling needs to improve his output but then I'm not sure he could have done much more last night with the opportunities he had. And he has set up a couple of goals in this tournament if I remember right.

Good work for Lingard's goal vs Panama but I'm not going to give him too much credit for hitting the keeper from six yards in the same game for Stones to tap in.

2 in 41 FFS. Van La Parra levels of shit.

But we know that he isn't Van la Parra levels of shit, don't we? He's just scored 20-25 goals this season. I'm not saying he should definitely play, I'd be tempted to play Rashford instead of him, but I can see why Southgate is sticking by him.

Of course we know that. But it's an appalling record, there's no way to dress it up.

I've never said it isn't! We have to find a way IMO, like Pep has, to get him in the right positions where he can clearly be devastating. And he has to improve his output, as otherwise he will lose his place eventually. It could even be the next game, as Sweden will most likely defend in a very low block against us, which might allow room for Rashford behind Kane. I see him sticking by him for now though.

41 caps t his age really shocked me when I read that too, he's on for a huge amount in his career.

Sweden are fucking stupid price to beat England. Odds of nearly 4 to 1 to win in normal time and over 2 to 1 to qualify for next round.

If you consider that they came 2nd in a tough qualifying group, beat Italy over two legs in the play offs, have won 3 of their 4 matches to date and only lost to Germany with the last kick of the game they should be far closer.

if you do what youve always done you get what you always got.

Failing to prepare is preparing to fail

you can call these cliches and you would be right but today they really are "spot" on
You've got a future career as a management consultant in you.

Yeah, it's a Del special. It's stuck in my head ever since!

I'm struggling to see why Sterling is keeping his place in the team.....
