The Official World Cup 2018 Megathread

Alan we are just taking the piss as it was too funny not to. Relax
Yeah, you're probably right. Sorry. It's bloody 99F here and my car's AC is broken and blah blah blah life stuff.

I'm in a bad mood in general, I suppose. Ignore me.

I need to know how "thrilled" on a scale of 1-20 Alan was before I can judge.
10?

I'm not attached to them in any way but I can't help but be moved by the emotional reactions of the game.

It's just odd, is all.

- It's two teams, both on 0 points, in a dead rubber
- Egypt haven't ever won a World Cup game, so if you were favouring one in the "little guy gets a shot at glory" stakes, it'd be them
- They're both manifestly shit, so whoever wins can't be that proud
- Winning one game at a World Cup means nothing really, it's tomorrow's chip paper in this context. I've seen Scotland do that, for real. Not Wales though, as they are shit
- One of them is probably going to win you would think, so you can't really lose on the thrillometer
- It's Saudi Arabia
- Who really gives a fuck about this as a neutral
- I don't really think you were/are "thrilled" :icon_lol:

We do love you though Alan. You bring sunshine to my heart and gladness to my soul.

Yeah it's just a closed country which I can not support atm..was just wondering how you thought, no hard feelings Alan.

Trust me when I say that being pleased for their players does not mean I accept or excuse their government policies.

And Dan, being happy for shitty teams/players is my favorite pastime, you know that!

Even when the World Cup expands to 48 teams, it isn't totally unreasonable to expect these points could be the last Saudi Arabia get in a WC for another 24 years or more, IMO.

I can't imagine even most Saudis were thrilled. It was the definition of irrelevant

By that logic, no one outside of Europe or South America should ever even care if they qualify.

There should only be 1 from every other none South American or European federation. Even then this many teams are just too much next we'll be letting Scotland and Wales qualify

..as I have said before I think it´s the beauty of the world cup really..not that I support the Saudis mind

Peru's Jefferson Farfan has apparently suffered life-threatening brain injuries in a training accident.

Oh, good. Guess I saw an older article.

Dan, whenever I see William Carvalho he makes me think of the ways you always describe John Obi Mikel.

The used the word "traumatic" when they should have really said "concussion". Bad translation I think.

He looked really promising around 2014/15. Faded so badly since. I honestly don't know what he's supposed to be.

He really doesn't do much of anything but take up space. He must do something for Sporting CP but I sure can't figure out what it is.

Portugal all over the place defensively at the moment; hard to believe they've got to a point where Pepe and Fonte are the best they can put together at CB.

Yikes. Shades of Roger Johnson and Wayne Hennessey there for Iran.

Can’t say I’ve seen much of André Silva, but he looks a right fatty
