The Official FIFA World Cup 2022 Megathread

My argument for years. When the ball is out of play, you stop the clock. It starts on the ref's whistle.
Now you can waste as much time as you like, you plums.
It would still require refs to stop goalkeepers holding onto the ball for an age.

Yes I suppose so, but if you're the keeper, and you've just collected the ball, you've now got about 10 seconds to get rid of it...
(Just stood up and tested it in my kitchen...

Uruguay tactics consisting of knocking it about aimlessly until Gimenez can knock a massive diagonal to the box is a bit strange considering the quality they have.

Except refs doesn't whistle to restart on throw ins, corners or free kicks. Only direct free kicks in front of goal I think.

Hwang Ui-jo with one of the worst misses of the tournament so far there.

It always amazes how pro footballers can sky a shot over the bar on a regular basis from less than 18 yards in.

He didn’t really have the time to think for pressure to be a real factor - just poor technique.
I would argue that you’re under heightened stress for the full 90 anyway, especially at a World Cup.

The ability to compartmentalize that stress is, IMO, a key separator between good players and great ones.

I think this is why some players mess things up when they get chance to think but can then execute perfectly when they're just reacting/ going off instinct.

There have been a few WTF team selections so far, but Pellestri over De Arrascaeta is genuinely mind boggling.

The whole Uruguay set up is weird. Playing Nunes as a winger defensively but then centre forward when they have the ball is another which is just stupid.

They are infuriating me, have absolutely no tempo or movement ahead of the ball so they just end up knocking it around infront of South Korea who aren't really having to do anything other than stay in shape

Was just thinking how little Uruguay are offering in terms of movement

Is it just me or does Nuñez kinda suck

It will never happen. You stop for everything (they aren't in this tournament, just a chunk more) and you are rapidly heading towards 2 hour games. It's fine as it is with a bit of policing piss take.

Shot clocks and so on can get in the sea.
