The only reason they are that short is the amount of changes France has made, so uncertainty comes into it.

Problem is that too many here will think "we don't have a chance of winning so I can't get invested".

We have to accept that football ain't, well, football. We don't have a monopoly on the global standard of the game. Even measuring purely from a talent standpoint we aren't hugely better than Iran, IMV. And too many here simply won't give a shit until US Soccer can become the US Basketball of the international sport. Which, frankly, almost certainly will not and can not happen.
