The Official Euro 2016 Megathread

What the hell is happening in the ground now? Security really need to do a lot better there

Tonight showed the need (as in all games really) to put the chances away when they come

We shouldn't have been looking to hold out for a 1 - 0 as we could/should have had 3 in the first half

Always disappointing to concede so late feels like a loss, I can understand Roy's substitutions, he wanted to win the game 1-0 and all would have been fine if the game had finished a minute earlier.
Looking beyond the result, it was probably the best England performance for a long while.

I think you have to put England's performance into perspective there: Russia were very poor, so England may have played well but let's not fool ourselves into thinking we were playing a decent side. And how Kenny Jackett must have loved Roy's tactics - leave your best attacking option on the bench all the game, don't go for it against a clearly vulnerable team, try and hang on for 1-0...

And Russian hooligans are in a league of their own. 2018 World Cup will be a bloodbath

I think there is a lot of truth in what you say Norman re the quality of the opposition and ultimately we didn't win the game, so can hardly go over the top about it, but that first half performance was as good as we have played in a tournament for a long time, certainly since 2004.

Kane worries me, in the friendlies per tournament and last night he looks a shadow of the player he is at Spurs. I don't understand him being on corners and free kicks either. Typically he doesn't take either for Spurs so it's not like he's a specialist. Sterling is no more effective than Jeremy Helan, he has pace to burn which worries the opposition but can't control it and his delivery and shooting are both poor. Have to say that Rooney played well and looks a good option in that role. I wouldn't have taken him off, but didn't see it as a negative substitution, it's not like he was playing as a 10.

Greetings from Greece. Missed the first two mins, other than that operation make sure Stu sees the football went well.

Thought my boy Rooney did very very well. Kane worked hard but needed the run of the ball. Why is he taking corners??

The substitutions showed why we won't get anywhere near winning this tournament.

I can't believe we didn't win that but at least we can take plenty of positives away from it. Dier was class, Rooney had a very good game, we carved out some good chances and I was delighted to see how well we pressed them.

Play like that against Wales and Slovakia and I think we'll be fine. We deserved to win comfortably and I was gutted when they equalised.

I hope Kane gets on the score sheet soon as he's not looking particularly effective at the moment. Why he's on corners is a complete mystery to me!

My match experience was rather odd - watching in my premier inn hotel room at 1am on my tablet with very poor WiFi wasn't ideal but it got the job done!

I thought England were excellent with five or six players having real top draw performances. What I believe is the common fault tournament after tournament is that in the really big pressure moments English players fail with decision making or the execution of the required skill.
I thought Roy got most things bang on from team selection, team shape, tactical awareness and substitutions.

That just about sums it up for me. Though I do not think we needed to try to hold on, we were far better than Russia and should have won comfortably.

Sterling is a waste of a shirt IMO. The only asset he has nowadays is he can run (not with the ball effectively though).

Good performance and can't believe we didn't win but Russia are piss poor and will probably come bottom of the group.
Pressure is now on for Thursday a draw suits Wales just fine can see a cagey affair with it not being a great game.

Wales will be better than Russia. So England need to take any chances that come along, plus trying to keep Bale quiet.

I would bite your hand off for a 0-0.

I was very impressed indeed by England last night. I think they have enough about them to unlock Wales.

Hard to judge Russia since we were all over them and pegged them back for most of the game.

First half I though he did quite well, also set up Rooney for the one off the cross bar. Did fade out terribly second half.

Agreed. The commentary kept saying how he was so quick yet he never got round his man and generally had to cut back onto his right. He may give us some natural width but it's shit width with no end product.

He at least pushes defences back and he tries to beat people. He often loses the ball though.

That's the problem, he's good at turning attack into defence.

On to Turkey v Croatia. Should be an interesting one this:

That's not a bad Croation side to be fair should make comfortable work of Turkey.
