The Official Euro 2016 Megathread

The ref hasn't given it, pretty clear from the lengthly pause that he was getting advice from either the lino or the guy behind the goal.

I don't think it's a pen but don't put your hands in that position. Especially after Boateng got done for similar in the very last game.

What's the betting the ref evens it up? Go on the in play markets for a German pen or a cheap French sending off

I agree but its still not a pen. Now I really want German s to score as its an injustice.

Thierry Henry going on about "blatant penalties"...Oh the irony

Exactly,he's never gonna get his head to it so why have your hands there?
Anyway, at least its a miles better spectacle than last night.

Wow, Can took a soft tumble there.
Defo not a kraut rock.

Since when does it have to be deliberate? I'm sure Boateng didn't mean it either, he was just waiving to the moon. If Schweinsteiger touched it it was a pen.

"Regarding handball they now ask the referee to consider the proximity of the potential offender to the person last playing the ball, the speed of the ball and importantly whether the offender's arms are in a natural or unnatural position.

So the question of intent is now, did the offender deliberately place his arms in an unnatural position to increase the chances of the ball hitting him?

If the answer to that is yes then it is correct to penalise that player even though it used to be argued that was ball to hand."

He didn't though, he was just trying to use his arms as leverage on the jump but was five minutes too slow because he's old and shit.

In all fairness it was probably a marginal decision. German tv says definate penalty, but they are used to soft fouls being given.

And the referee has to make that judgement in a matter of seconds.

Hey guys I'm just educating you all as to what a referee has to look for with the new interpretation of the Laws of the Game

Eh since its the law? Accidental handball is not a pen. That was not a pen

Germany appear to have a problem at the moment. France are in front, and they seem to be in no danger.
