The NFL Thread

True enough, but still. Herbert was getting murdered some games and you just can’t afford that sort of thing. You’re always just one injury away from something career-altering.

A new coach there, maybe. Or a draft pick who can at least add depth. When you’ve got a guy like Herbert you’re making an insane mistake by letting him take the sort of punishment he is.

Although, having said all that, if there’s a core tenet to McDaniel’s play designs, it’s getting the ball out quickly on passing plays. So that might help Herbert take less punishment from the off.

Christian Parker to DC at Dallas. Big loss for the Eagles, both as DB coach and potentially giving some secrets away to their biggest rivals

Woah. He’s… not well loved by Chargers people. Hated might be more accurate.

I’m really confused about the McDaniel mention. If he’s already signed a contract in LA, the Chargers would have to give permission for other teams to keep talking to him… or that’s what I thought, anyway.

The way Pegula threw McDermott under the bus this week over Keon Coleman when there's loads of evidence of Beane saying it was effectively his decision to draft him. I'd tell em to stick it whilst he's still there.

Maybe he has a break clause if a HC role is offered during this cycle?

He's agreed in principle if he doesn't get a HC job, the same as Daboll has in Tennessee

That could well be! Hadn’t considered it but makes a lot of sense.

Ah, Tony confirms.

Mike McCarthy getting the Steelers gig apparently.
I think Mike's underrated, but this still feels like a sideways move at absolute best to me.

Edit: just realized that "Mike" is not distinctive in this context.

Do you want a name?
McDonald and Coen weren't names relatively speaking. For all his flaws Sirianni has been to 2 SBs without being one. For me you want the rising star, not yesterday's man just because everyone has heard of him. It's unimaginative at best and downright lazy at worst

The Ravens have just fired a big name SB winning coach and are looking for someone who will immediately replicate/improve on that success. I am not suggesting that a novice HC cannot do it, but if I was a fan I would be expecting someone with a proven track record.

Proven track record of what though? Using your Ravens analogy, Harbaugh won a SB more recently than Mccarthy did. It's the Steelers we are talking about anyway, so I guess he's won one more recently than Tomlin. McCarthy gives you a relative level of competence, but famously so did Tomlin.
