The NFL Thread

Absolutely gutted. Team won’t be the same for a long time.

Don't have a QB, don't really have the draft capital to get one and the worst cap position in the NFL. Not a quick fix

Yeah knew their cap situation was terrible and if they’ve got no picks either then no way of really fixing it.

NFC south has gone from one the best divisions to one of the worst. Not sure how the Bucs will do with a lot of key players going to FA

Not a quick fix but not a bad team either.

Don't agree with the South being a bad division either, it's better than the East with dreck like the Giants and Football Team stinking out the league

Payton will go down as a legend and deservedly so but maybe now was the time to leave, he's done his job and deserves to get to do what he wants now.

Got to find the right appointment and give them time to build a team, trade for a decent QB and get some recovery going.

I'd be looking at Flores and give him free reign. It'll take a year or two but everybody does with a rebuild.

Obviously it’s normal for the quality of teams/divisions to change. But the Panthers are shit and no sign of going anywhere. Falcons on a rebuild but still massively hampered by Ryan’s contract, Saints massive cap issues and Tampa were perennially shit until TB12 came along, and they’ve got loads of bog names going to FA. They are probably on the way down too now, particularly when Brady packs in. A so

Rhule is a decent enough coach but he's been hamstrung by the mismanagement of the roster. Picking up Darnold always looked strange given his salary, now it looks outright stupid. Then you have panic-buying Cam Newton. CMC can't stay healthy.

That's not to say that they'll be able to turn it around. The franchise has always had horrendous luck with those things.

CMC was mismanaged, giving him 40 touches/targets a game in dead seasons. Got what they deserved there.
The East hasn't been the best quality for a decade or so now, but is the most competitive within itself. 2004 is the last time a team won it back to back.

Saints have a good defense, Oline when fit and Kamara. After 2 years you'd have to say Thomas is a big question mark. It's recognised as a poor year for QB's in the draft so the number 3/4 option could be available for them to develop if they think they are worth it, but can't see how the cap situation allows them to get a Wilson or Rodgers unless they put a lot of dead money in later years and kick the can. They did remarkably well to have a winning season this year with all the headwinds

Kamara is weird. Obviously a top 5 RB but sometimes he protects himself too much (that feels gross to say, actually).

I don't mean he should put himself in harm's way, necessarily, but he's got a very annoying habit of giving up two or three yards to avoid contact. I get that as a RB you have to be very wary of the tread left on your proverbial tires, but sometimes I miss the hungry Kamara who it seemed like would slip out of any contact no matter what.

Early signs are Dennis Allen will get the job. He's done a wonderful job with the D in fairness to him. Probably harsh to judge him for failing in Oakland, too (fucking everybody has done since Rich Gannon retired).

For all the reasons discussed above he's going to need a bloody good OC

I'm expecting the offense to go full rebuild. See what value we can get for Michael Thomas and go from there.

Broncos hire Nathaniel Hackett (Packers OC) as head coach. Cue Aaron Rodgers to Broncos rumours.

Bears hiring Matt Eberflus (Colts DC)

Flores set to interview with New Orleans. 🤞

I don't want to sound cynical, but if they want Dennis Allen, isn't this just to tick the Rooney Rule box?
Not cynical, mate, realistic.

We’ll see who ends up with the job in the end, but I think your suspicions aren’t at all unreasonable.
