The NFL Thread

The Bears have three round 6 picks, no.s 217, 221 and 228.
6,6,6, 217+221+228=666...

Then you get the undrafted guys who end up being superstars like Thielen.

Ekler and Lindsey too, and then think Robinson from the Jags maybe as well (or was certainly late in the draft) . Still a tad surprised the Broncos cut the latter, interested to see how he does at Texans

The draft is always gambling. But a draft pick that hits always provides a team with a better money : performance ratio than any free agent can.

As the likes of Tom Brady and DWF's list above show, however, diamonds can be found all over. Further evidence:

  • Kurt Warner, QB, Saint Louis (Undrafted)
  • James Harrison, LB, Pittsburgh (Undrafted)
  • Robert Mathis, LB, Indianapolis (5th round, 138th overall)
  • Antonio Gates, TE, LA Chargers (Undrafted)
  • Terrell Davis, RB, Denver (6th round, 196th overall)
  • Bo Jackson, RB, LA Raiders (7th round, 183rd overall)
  • Stefon Diggs, WR, Buffalo (5th round, 146th overall)

Player's Association have made a mistake here, although it's a cheap shot

Jags reportedly about to sign Tim Tebow - as a Tight End. He is 33, never played that position before, left the NFL almost 10 years ago.

Meanwhile Colin Kaepernick remains without a team.

I saw that tweeted by a few players yesterday, for me it's a lazy connection. Kaepernick wants a job now very much on his own terms and on unrealistic money, see the circus of his work out a year or so ago as evidence.

Tebow played for Meyer at college and it's for a vet minimum salalry. I mean it's stupid and is a combination of a publicity move and to take some pressure off Lawrence media wise, but should be viewed as so on it's own terms.

It's obvious to all what happened to CK in the first couple of years after he started to kneel, even Goodell tacitly admits it now, I just don't see how this is connected in anything other than the loosest of ways

I was really posting on how ludicrous it is to think that Tebow is a viable NFL tight end. I see the publicity angle, but starting out in such a physically demanding role at an age when many players have already retired?? Anyone else would be laughed out of town.

But the sports media love Tebow (as do some fans). Maybe because he is white and overtly christian, or maybe because he has Eddie the Eagle skill levels. The contrast with Kaepernick may be a lazy one, but it is most definitely an obvious one. They represent very different images of America and people who love either of them will not like the other.

The media are starting to comment on how the Deshaun Watson situation has gone very quiet - suggesting this means some pay-offs are being negotiated.
Our local tv usually concentrates on the Cowboys, but last night its NFL story was Watson possibly being traded to the Eagles. They finished the story with a throwaway line about Washington chasing Aaron Rogers.

I think all the teams likely to trade for him Panthers, Giants, Eagles, Dolphins are all going to see what they have with their QB now, although all are probably a poor season away from being moved out. Broncos are the only ones that may move this season, but have less draft capital than some of the others.

I'm sort of aware of Tebowmania. I saw him play in a pre season game once, he got a heroes welcome even as third QB who wasn't going to make the roster. Strange sort of cult status, people even bought shirts which at $100 a pop is bizarre

To understand the appeal of Tim Tebow, one must understand the way college football envelops the American South each autumn.

In Florida especially, Tebow may as well sit at God's right hand. He is adored there in a way few athletes are ever loved. And, to his credit, he seems like the genuine article.

He's not really worth the media circus that comes with him though is he for what he provides on the field

It's never been about that. He is quite literally a living legend. His impact at the University of Florida cemented his status.

That status creates the circus. His fit in the NFL has never been a part of it.

tebow was a terrible qb and his jesus schtick is annoying.

seems like a nice guy and all but I wish I never had to hear about him again

Texans sign another QB - now have Jeff Driskell, Tyrod Taylor, Ryan Finley, Davis Mills and Deshaun Watson. One star who will not play for them again, one rookie project, and 3 back-ups who are not good enough.
No surprise that they are favoured to lose in each game this season.

They could probably get a low draft pick for Taylor. The rest? Almost no value there.

NFL all-time leading points scorer?

Adam Vinatieri has just announced his retirement after 24 seasons!

And he was undrafted.
