The NFL Thread

Well played Tony, congrats on the win.
My mistake was having Brady as my Captain as I'd originally selected Sony Michel but switched them round!
Cheers Darlo, cocked my captain up as well, but got away with it.

As for the game, watched it this morning. Goff proved that without a fit Gurley he's a very average QB. I know it's not going to happen but I think someone from the Pats D should have been MVP. I would have given it to Jason McCourty for what for me was the play of the game.

Tony 87.05
Darlo 74.32

Well done Tony.

See you all next season.

You're not comparing like for like for me. Although not as entertaining for some I'd still enjoy and appreciate a series of three and outs over what the NFL would like football to be nowadays - a game of catch.

Do you think the violence is being taken out of the game and the hits should be allowed?

I don't think the WR could believe he got there. I thought Gilmore, D McCourty and Van Noy were outstanding.

I don't understand some of the PI calls sometimes. Some really piss weak stuff being blown for, then that awful non PI call the other week for a massive shoulder charge. Beggars belief.

Hits to the head should be taken out of the game but I'm not talking about just that. Over the years the PI rules - or the application of them have changed, hits to the QB have changed both in the pocket and while they're on the run. It's all added up to a throw friendly game of catch in the extreme cases. There's no place for out and out violence and players like Bill Romanowski but I think the contest has gone too far the other way now.

What would you allow? Would you allow a blind side hit on a QB or a hit on the QB when he's on the slide?

Chop blocking was banned because it was dangerous and as far as I know if the QB is a runner he can be tackled as such. Some of the PI calls are daft I agree and the one in the Saints game not called last week was a disgrace. Having said that look at the hit that took Crooks out of the Superbowl last season, that was a blindside hit on a defenseless player, we can't be bringing that stuff back as that's just dangerous.

I don't really understand American Football but my boss is a huge Pats fan so has been talking about the game a fair bit.

The main thing I have learned is that it's really annoying that he keeps saying deefence instead of defence. You're not bloody American, say it properly!

As much as I'd like to agree with you, he's supported them since the mid-1980's and apparently they were pretty shit then. He's very odd in that as a teenager he chose to follow American Football rather than English football.

Some of the roughing the passer calls this season were a joke. But the main issue is the lack of consistency. Sometimes penalties are called and others not for the same or worse infringement. The league has probably tried to be too prescriptive and it has led to officials not being clear. Offensive holding is frustrating as hell, as it could probably be called on most plays but they only seem to call it on certain plays for dramatic impact ie, when there has been a big offensive play resulting in a key first down or a TD. And certain offensive lines almost never get called for it...

Kareem Hunt is off to the Browns, which looking at the contract seems to have been his only option. Would have been a great fit for the Eagles, but a bit too early for them I think.

Flacco is off to the Bronco's for a 4th

Flacco leaving isnt a shock but he was a hell of a Raven.

I think Hunt will just sign for someone else on free agency after that year. Browns just a stepping stone after his upcoming suspension IMO. That said I think they'll maybe make the playoffs next season.

Agreed, not convinced at all by Jackson though, he'll need to mix his game up next year now everyone has film on him

Me either he can run but he is only 21 so hopefully he’ll be able to get his passing game up over his rushing

Hopefully and with most teams showing that improvement I would agree, but its the Browns, no doubt we will find a way to completely fuck it up.

The Colts are my value bet for the Superbowl next season. Finally have Luck without injuries, seem to have sorted that O-line and have a lot of cap room to make some big plays at free agents.

Patriots owner Robert Kraft charged with soliciting prostitutes at a Spa in Florida that is also being investigated for links to human trafficking.

Apparently not the biggest name that's going to come out of it.
