The NFL Thread

My name is Simon and I'm a Bears fan.
(Oh the shame).

No shame at all MW... I'm a Bears fan too and am hopefully optimistic that one of the two QB's we've signed might be better than Cuttler. It's a pity Jeffery bailed but we were becoming a bit "one man team" and quite predictable.

Bring on the new season

I think the Bears trade was terrible. We will see on Trubisky obviously the people defending the move will say "if he turns out to be the guy nobody will care what they gave up"

I personally think they could have got him at 3 and think the 49ers have done a good job of putting enough out in the media to get someone to move up. San Francisco have ended up with 2 very highly rated defensive guys and 2 3rds and a 4th, the Browns might be finally getting it right too.

As for the Vikings still plenty of players left that can come in and start straight away, if Robinson or Lamp drop that far then it is a no brainer.

Only just looked at draft one and two...I'm talking about the two we signed close season not the rookie. We'llsee if he becomes anything over the next few years and I'm surprised we bothered picking him so high in the draft. Plenty more positions we needed to strengthen first!

Season starts in two weeks so I had a look earlier at what the big name trades/signings were during the off-season:

Adrian Peterson, RB, New Orleans Saints
Eddie Lacy, RB, Seattle Seahawks
Marshawn Lynch, RB, Oakland Raiders
Terrelle Pryor, WR, Washington Redskins
Martellus Bennett, TE, Green Bay Packers.
Alshon Jeffrey, WR, Philadelhia Eagles.
LeGarrette Blount, RB, Philadelphia Eagles
Brandon Marshall, WR, New York Giants
Brandin Cooks, WR, New England Patriots
Eric Decker, WR, Tennessee Titans
Desean Jackson, WE, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Martellus Bennett to the Packers is a really good deal in a problem position for them. It'll be interesting to see how Beast Mode and Peterson do at their new teams too.

Alshon Jeffrey was the Eagles big WR signing from the Bears rather than Jackson who you've doubled up. Finally we have a decent WR and a really strong defensive line, but ultimately weakness at CB will be the thing that stops a play off run. When I was there on Thursday the mood in Philly is positive but realistic, Wentz looks the business though.

Had my usual pre-season acca on the eight divisional winners. Couple of tough calls, particularly Seahawks v Cardinals and Falcons v Panthers. Went for Falcons/Cardinals.

Patriots
Steelers
Titans
Raiders
Cowboys
Packers
Falcons
Cardinals

Biased, but not sure about the Cowboys, will Prescott have the semaphore drop or go on to be a great after a fantastic rookie year? Elliott has his 6 game ban to contend with. The NFC East was the toughest division last year, so that could scupper them.

Got the tickets for the Wembley games through on Friday. Excited now!

Who else but me and Darlo are going this year? Looks like Deano and Carrotdude having a quick look back. Anyone else?

Yeah I'll be at the Vikes v Browns game at Twickenham, first live match for me so can't wait!

Also can't wait for Sunday night, I bloody love redzone!

Did you manage to get decent seats?

I love Redzone too. It's still free as well for those without the Sports package. My mate who I go with is gutted because he's gotten rid of all his Sky stuff and has no way of watching now. Unless he signs up for Gamepass or something.

I'm going to the Vikings Browns game.

I have to say as optimistic as I was before last season about the Vikings chances I am worried this season. I don't tend to pay too much attention to pre-season but by all accounts they have looked awful in the games this year, especially when the 1's were on the field which is not very encouraging.

I have chosen to ignore pre season completely but yeah I'm not particularly optimistic either.

Pretty sure the seats were decent, can't remember now but I hope they are as I remember spending a fair amount!

BBC says it has coverage on a Friday night but I can't find any listings for it all...
Anyone else seen it on BBC? And when?

The BBC have the NFL show which flits around times and channels. It's a discussion programme / review show rather than coverage as such
