The Nerdy Dr Who Geekfest Thread

Earth. It's what wiped out the dinosaurs innit.

Not really - the Doctor was pretty sure it's what happened to them as they discovered the fossils in the same place in the future.

Awesome new box set coming out soon called 'Regenerations' - the stories where the Doctor regenerates:

The Tenth Planet
The War Games
Planet of the Spiders
Logopolis
The Caves of Androzani
Time and the Rani
Doctor Who: The Movie
Bad Wolf/The Parting of the Ways
The End of Time

The Caves of Androzani, War Games and Logopolis are all brilliant.

Shame it's spoiled by the movie and the atrocious Time and the Rani but overall, well worth it - especially if there are a ton of geeky extras included. I know they've re-made the missing footage of The Tenth Planet using animation - something that worked brilliantly when they re-did The Invasion (Cybermen story from the Troughton era).

Last episode wasn't too bad but I feel they could do with some more episodes inside the TARDIS. Still got no idea what direction they are going with Clara though which makes me think that this mini season will be all filler.

Really enjoyed the last one.

Lots of corridors + TARDIS stuff + timey wimey things = good Who.

Once again, obviously,I have to disagree. :(

Too much frantic running in boring corridors, too little time in the rooms that looked cool.
The salvage crew annoyed me to no end, would have been a much better exploration of the Tardis without them hell bent on dismantling everything.
The Doc ending up outside the Tardis...really??
Worst of all,number 2 on my Moffat-Who hate list:The reset-time/universe-and-nobody-remembers-button.
A Time War book with his name in it,a name that must never be spoken? Careless doctor.
Why do their "future burnt bodies" turn zombie?

Didn't really go anywhere and then it was all null and void.I would have liked an episode with the Doc and Clara exploring the Tardis,a guided tour where nothing bad happens would be fine by me. :)

Still, not the worst episode of this batch.I give it a 4/10.

The Crimson Horror.

Again not my cup of tea, better than last week in any case.

The 11th Doctor is really getting one-dimensional,he's stuck on silly and never take anything seriously now.And Clara, well nothing going on there at all.

The rocket would have incinerated them all in that stairwell, and when did they take time to take their pictures on the russian sub and those other places?

Ominous sight of two kids at the end too,so I guess next episode is a family trip in the blue box.

I thought that was quite a good one actually, enjoyed that one far more than the other ones.

That episode was dreadful - absolutely dreadful. A stupid, cliched mess of a story with the most worrying and cheap ending ever - oh great, we've got 2 annoying kids in the Tardis now, and I've never seen a lamer way of getting them on board. Old photos that look like Clara and they'll 'tell their dad' if she doesn't let them come with her?! FFS - who on earth wrote that?!

As for Clara - I don't think this plotline is going very well. It worked well with Amy and River Song, but this continual 'who is she?' plot has gone on for far too long with no sign of it being resolved any time soon. I think the rather average nature of the series is working against it TBH - I'm not really that fussed who she is - it should have been sorted several episodes ago.

Ah well - at least we've got the Cybermen next week - hopefully those annoying brats will be 'deleted'.

It's blackmail man,you can't fight it. ;)

I still think they should have gone with Victorian Clara, the companion shouldn't be a mystery, the companion is there to be amazed and occasionally help out imo.It worked with River because we learned something about her every time she was in an episode...

That would make my day.

And then Moffat would press the reset button. :)

Aye, it was alright I suppose. From the trailer for the next episode, did it seem like a two-parter or possible end of season episode to you guys?

Two eps left of this batch: "Nightmare in Silver" and "The Name of the Doctor".

Both seem to be stand alone eps but the last one is the much anticipated(?) Fields of Trenzelore thingy.

I'm sure it won't happen, but if they actually name the Doctor, expect a massive nerd meltdown!

They can't do that - the whole point of the character would be compromised.

My guess is that characters will find out but the audience won't.

I agree, unless his name is Dottore Dottorelli and he's in fact an Italian.....fisherman.

Exactly, they can't,but they've painted themselves into a corner and has to do something about it.

My guess is that characters will find out but the audience won't.

Yeah, and then the universe will be reset and noone remembers a thing. That would be awful.I'm melting already. :)

I don't really like BIG story/character arcs like Clara's mystery and the doctor's name must never be spoken etc.I find it hampers the development of the characters,Clara especially.I want to care about her but if she dies again on Saturday I won't even care...

I love story arcs if they're good story arcs.

Bad Wolf, River Song, John Saxon and especially The Key To Time were all brilliantly done. Presently, the Clara mystery is starting to grate somewhat.

Bad Wolf was brilliant! Man when they came out to the Tardis at the end of Turn Left,Bad Wolf everywhere and the Tardis was red instead of green...still gives me the chills!

Saxon was good.River Song was good,but I didn't like her towards the end,too...something. ;)

The Clara "mystery" simply isn't going anywhere, and being force fed she's a mystery and it's complicated without feeding us some intel is grating indeed.

The Key to Time sounds like something I haven't seen. :(
