The Music Thread Strikes Back

my first civic gig was £6.50. early 90's. maiden were £12.80 in 1992. I saw the foos on their first tour for £12.50.
I look at prices now and despair. some months in the 90's i'd do a gig every week. no chance now.
Yeah bands like The Almighty were something like £7.50 in ‘94, we were always at gigs in the Civic. And it’s not just established bands, we’re going to see T-Rextasy at the Robin in December and that was nearly £80 for four tickets. Not the same level I know but it’s a fucking cover band. Eighty fucking quid. I think come April next year I’ll have given up everything I enjoyed doing because it’s too fucking expensive.

Just got into a gig tonight.
Wondered why the queue was a bit slow getting in.
There's no scanner for the tickets, just a good old fashioned clipboard with names on...

I saw Supergrass in the late 90s and it was £15.
I am buying tickets for the I Should Coco 30th anniversary tour this morning and it's €50

I'm planning on getting The Darkness & Ricky Gervais tickets at 10am when they go on general sale for their respective Oxford gigs. I've put a £50 max limit on tickets so may end up going to neither. We'll see.

I've got The Libertines in Birmingham next week and I think those tickets were £45 each. Mad that I paid about £80 for Truck Festival tickets (a three day bloody festival) less than 5 years ago and The Libs were headlining it!

As you've all said, the cost of tickets these days is insane.

Iron Maiden tickets go on sale today. They range from 88.70 to 110.40. I kinda debated going for a nostalgia kick, but not at those prices.

Gervais tickets at the same venue are over £50 jinks.

When I went to see the Foo Fighters in the Summer I made the decision that it was probably the last 'big' gig I'll go to. I enjoyed it but the cost in relation to enjoyment was a bit out imo. Ive never been a big fan of stadium gigs anyway so that's probably it for me. I'll stick to local pub/covers bands I can walk to and have a few beers and the occasional Civic hall type gig, although they're not exactly cheap.

No joy with Gervais tickets - they sold out in 2 minutes (although they were only £43.95 each which was surprising). Did manage to secure a couple of tickets for The Darkness, though - so that's a birthday treat from the mrs.

Sydney’s ticket for AC/DC a few months ago was £150, told her to enjoy it because I’ll never be paying that again.

I used to be able to use my £10 a week paper round to fund at least one gig a month at the Wulfrun/Civic and go to a few Wolves games every season.

yeah, another band I really wanted to see. Only saw them in 1991 on the razors edge tour. Think I paid about £15 or so. For wembley, although I really was interested, adding on the cost of transport, and the realistic need to hotel overnight meant I couldn't justify throwing what would have been approaching £400 for a gig.

I saw underworld do the teenage cancer trust gig last year. Ticket was £53 (felt this was ok for the royal albert hall/a one off gig). Train fares were £40 (return). Hotel for one night was over £100.

was going to post the same. Also, when at uni I worked in a pub, and earned £40 a week. paid board at home, but still had funds for gigs, which I don't have now!

I'll weigh in with my usual, saw them for £3.50 at the Civic. (AC/DC that is)

On this - the hidden charges are another sharp practice that needs to be regulated and transparently communicated.
Supergrass was advertised as €45 per ticket, I knew there would be a booking fee etc.
The actual cost per ticket was €57 as there was handling fees, service fees and a 3.50 restoration fee to the venue as its an old Theatre.
I bought 4 tickets for me and my mates but its quite a jump to go from paying the expected €180 to €228

That's nearly £50 per bassline!
