The Music Thread Strikes Back

Pffft! It's ya birthday, you're entitled!
Yer daughter should get it for ya for you driving her to work through all that snow...
Good point! Will inform her of this when she returns to the land of the living. Poor sod has just done 10 days in a row of 11pm-7am. This news will cheer her up.

In other news, James continue to amaze me. Their EP out in a fortnight contains the following, that was deemed not good enough for the forthcoming album:

Swear to god they're mad! Tune is great. They did this with loads of "b-sides" like america, all good boys, and hedex amongst a ton of others that they cast off, only for the tracks to be gems standing the test of time. Their b sides are better than most bands a sides.

No, the way the law is phrased is that you should have one or two 24 hour breaks within a fortnight IIRC.

Just watching Pearl Jam: Let's Play Two from Sky Arts. A documentary about their gigs at Wrigley Field a couple of years ago.

I'm loving it.

They were one of the bands that helped me discover my love of rock music in 1993 and are probably the only band that have stayed with me throughout the whole 25 years. I adore them just as much now as I did back then. The only other band that can rival my obsession with Sleater-Kinney!

My old Latin/English teacher from school liked Pearl Jam. He was a cringey middle-aged guy who wore white socks and a linen suit. As such I have always had to discount them from any serious discussion.

If it helps, they've never inspired me to invest in any linen clothing and I don't own a pair of white socks.

I could never agree with the way they seemed to mix post-grunge with hippie culture. Doesn't work for me.

They are absolutely a class act. Still belting out the hits live and pretty prolific in the studio. Eddies voice is still amazing and they are all supreme musicians. I've seen them live twice and they were superb.

Vedder's solo work is much better FWIW.

This can stay our secret.

Eddie Vedder is still cool as fuck despite being in his 50s. I don't have many heroes these days but he is one of them.

Sadly, I've only been lucky enough to see them once when they headlined Reading. I'd have loved to have seen them live in the 90s.

I will say that "Once" is a tune and half.

Ten is one of the best albums of all time. Absolutely immaculate from start to finish.

Mike McCready is a God too. Unbelievable guitarist and his work in Mad Season, Wake Up (probably the most haunting song I know) in particular, is out of this world.
