The Music Thread Strikes Back

Got to stick up for Glastonbury revellers here - as I keep saying, it's impossible to convey the atmosphere on the TV and the BBC has never got close to it IMO. It might be a decent indication of the crowds around the main stages but I'd seriously recommend anyone go who likes live music. The parts you don't see are easily the bits I miss most - the areas to the east of the site such as the fields of Avalon, the old Jazzworld field (called West Holts I think?) and up to the Acoustic Tent where you can find the most amazing random acts playing, incredible food and plenty of real ale. It's not up it's own arse at all (particularly those areas), quite the opposite. And the range of different people who go there is quite surprising.

I'd also like to point out that my 'I hope it rains' comment was totally tongue in cheek purely down to jealousy - I can't wait to go back one day! I've been when it's chucked it down and when it's been 25° and not a cloud in the sky and whilst the former was a real slog, the latter was one of the best weekends of my life. DDW is right - it makes a massive difference.

Not denying it would be a fantastic experience, but that doesn't belie my previous post (which, if course, isn't applicable to everyone).

Oh I didn't see that - I was responding to Bear/DDW.

I can't disagree with your point but TBH it's so bloody tough to get a ticket that a bit of boasting about it isn't unreasonable! I got my first Glasto ticket over the counter at HMV in Manchester a few weeks before the festival. #thosewerethedays

It sucks doesn't it. It's self-perpetuating too as the harder it is to get tickets the more people make a big deal of it. It's almost as important to 'have a ticket' than it is to 'be going to Galstonbury'.
Popularity breeds popularity, at which point the core become a eroded and I get put off.

Not sure I agree with this bit - not with the people I know who are going. And there are plenty - the bastards.

Obviously they were crowing when they got the tickets but for the past few weeks and since they arrived at the place it's been wall to wall Glastobation from them. Not quite sure how either - how have they still got power in their phones to be taking over my Facebook feed with photos/updates?!

Glastobation :icon_lol:

Will probably tune into the Waterboys onthe Pyramid Stage at 1330 today.

The BBC is streaming from the Pyramid, Other, West Holt, John Peel and Park stages all weekend.

Unsurprisingly, the Foo Fighters have been confirmed for Glastonbury 2016.

I love rain at a festival, sorts the men from the boys. Anyone can rock up and stand around having a few beers, listening to music in a sunny field. Takes some commitment to keep it up when it's pitch black, hammering down with rain and you can't climb the hill back to your tent.

Never understood the appeal of festivals myself. Went to one in North Carolina and it was great fun (plus there's just something about festival-frequenting girls that is, erm, awesome) but I felt so dirty at the end of three days that it wasn't worth it.

I always book a week off work after Electric Picnic as I'm completely unfit for anything except cold sweating on the couch. I get the fear real bad.

Gaz Coombes' set was really good. Not watched much else tbh.

Yes it was. The missus didn't know who he was, so I sang her a couple of Supergrass tunes and it reminded me of what a top songwriter he is.

Just got the guitar out to play Late In The Day. Such a great tune.

Watching The Maccabee's set now, which is also top drawer. Ben Howard up next which the missus is very excited about. The online coverage is pretty decent, tbf.

The Maccabee's are the first good band I've seen (but I haven't watched any of the online coverage). I may check out Kanye in a bit just out of interest.

The red button is shit this year, so we've got the laptop hooked up to the tv. Live streams on about 6 stages with loads of full sets to catch up with too.

Did Ben Howard play a big set? Think he only did 3-4 songs at big weekend.
