The Manager Sacked/Hired Thread 2024/25

I think Mowbray is too far into the autumn of his career and wouldn't want to spoil his legacy there. Maybe as a stop gap until they appoint someone in the summer it could be a possibility but surely not long term.

cooper is the sensible zero-compo choice. but he might have his sights set higher. Martin probably does too, and will feel his philosophy deserves nothing less than Bayern or Barcelona

Their fans hate Martin for something or other from last season.

Liverpool first team coach John Heitinga is a leading contender to succeed Corberan

Can’t see Cooper ending up at a team currently higher than Albion any time soon. Like GO he’s not getting another PL job unless he gets a team promoted.

IF he gets championship it will be a recently relegated with the extra dough, not albion slashing the playing budget.

Since relegation they’ve had Hughes, Lambert, Jones, Rowett, Michael O’Neill, Alex Neil, Schumacher and Pelach. Shades of Watford.

Stoke are a nothing club and never really have been. Bigger than Wigan, Luton and Bournemouth granted but Championship level at best.
A bit harsh - agree re today and the last 50 years but in the mid-60s to the mid-70s they were quite a strong club/team with a number of outstanding players in Gordon Banks, Terry Conroy, George Eastham, Jimmy Greenhoff, Alan Hudson, Geoff Hurst and Peter Shilton. Although I couldn't stand Shilton, I genuinely had a soft spot for Stoke in this period.

They won the League Cup in 71/72 (when it was a major trophy) and they were serious challengers for the 1st Division title in 74/75 finishing 5th only 4 pts behind champions Derby County.

Unfortunately in the 75/76 season a severe storm blew the roof off one of the stands and the rebuild cost forced the club to sell a number of their high profile players which led to relegation in 76/77.

You can find a decade or so for many clubs. Crudely, Huddersfield 20s, Wigan mid 00s to mid 10s, Blackpool 50s, Burnley 50s, Blackburn 90s, Boro 00s and so on. Hopefully in years to come we'll be saying Bournemouth and Brentford were the 20s. Over time they regress to what they are, which in Stokes case is a second tier club imo.

My mate is a Stoke fan. He despairs about the club. Run by a mega rich family who never put their hands into their pockets.

They are always finding money to pay off managers 🤣. They seriously messed up when they went down and are hamstrung to a certain extent now as to what they can do to try and go up.

They spend a fair bit. Got put in hold by FFP a couple of seasons ago but they do spend.

Just spend a load, sack manager, new manager doesn't like the players, spend a load, sack the manager...repeat.

Have broken that this time by sacking the manager before he can spend

Yeah they have spent ridiculous amounts. Handed us a profit on Afobe as soon as they got relegated for a start. Thanks for that.

If a Stoke fan is whining about spending then he's a fucking moron.
