Delighted Howe is going to Newcastle. Players will go there for the money, nobody is going there to play for him. He's got a relegation squad as things stand. I can't see him improving their league position before Jan, then when he gets a few better players, it's questionable what he'll do with them.

Dive lots, feign injury, time waste. Depends if that’s enough to keep them up

This shit is too delicious.

Wonder how keen the new ownership will be if they don't get promoted next season.

If they go down they'll come back up with 100+ points. You or I could manage them with the Championship squad they'll build

You're probably right, but the lower leagues can be quite the harsh mistress. Leeds and Sheffield United come to mind (although I have absolutely no idea about the circumstances surrounding those clubs' extended stay outside the Prem).

And the alternative is also just so much more fun!

Times have changed, look at the top 3 this year. 2 relegated last year, the other the year before. Norwich awful in the PL, win the Championship, back to awful in the PL. Layer in £50m spend and they'll piss it

Booo, you killjoy. ;)

Good to know! Irrelevant now but I almost chose Wednesday as my club back in the day.

Turns out I made the correct choice, of course.

Both times Newcastle got relegated they pissed if coming back up because they should never have been relegated in the first place.

This time they probably should be relegated but will sign at worst top end championship players to get them back up.

My gut reaction was that Howe will be sacked if they go down, but perhaps the new regime has looked at the squad, correctly concluded that it's beyond saving in one window, and have brought Howe in as something of a "sure thing" for getting them back up at the first time of asking.

This is wonderful news. Eddie Howe. It's like Ashley is still in charge.

Mourinho coming out in praise of Nuno earlier, saying Conte is good but Nuno is very good as he managed wolves for 4 years not a couple of months.

One thing that's really getting on my tits is the narrative thats seemingly appeared amongst Spuds fans that Nuno left Wolves to join them.

All the comment sections are filled with 'Nuno should have stayed at Wolves and asked for more money' I know it's social media but reading comments from self entitled Spuds fans, apart from being an oxymoron, is really irritating.

Liverpool have already started looking at which fringe players they can get Howe to sign for ridiculous fees. It’s doubt they’ll be quite as lucky as they were with Ibe and Solanke.

Saw Howe described as a Slimfast Steve Bruce on Twitter which I found amusing.

I feel Newcastle fans will look on Howe in years to come the same way most of us do Lambert. It wasn't enjoyable but he did the necessary so we could progress the following season.

Of course, I'm hoping he'll still got homesickness north of Watford and the whole thing collapses.

I don’t quite understand everyone writing Howe off as shit tbf. I hated his Bournemouth team for obvious reasons but he took them from League 2 to the Premier League (and then kept them theee for a few years). Even with some of the financial backing he had, it was still a very impressive achievement.

there’s a chance that it was because the club was so well set up for him (a little like Nuno with us) but I don’t think he’s as bad a coach as made out anyway.

he is walking into a very difficult job mind you. Bruce is going to get away with having set them up for relegation as they have been one of the worst teams in the division for both years he has been in charge and been very lucky to not be in proper relegation battles

I don't think he's shit, i just can't stand him as a bloke, the way he sets up his teams to behave like pure shitcunts, the way the media fawn over him, how it was "little old Bournemouth" when they have a Russian billionaire owner, it winds me up.

Also he was failure at Burnley, the media rarely seem to mention that.

As for Newcastle, it's probably not a bad appointment, in the interim before they get a bigger name in.

The real issue with Howe as a hire for Newcastle, IMO, is that I can’t see the sorts of high profile, big money players they’ll be wanting to bring in finding Howe as a coach they want to play for.

I think the key thing big money players are interested in is… big money. They could have a traffic cone in charge for all it matters.
