"Extra Fixtures" pisses me off. It's a load of bollocks. We play the same amount of league games as Spain and Italy and have one more domestic cup. The big clubs never take both or even one seriously anyway. Winter break I don't entirely understand either, have a weekend or two off and then cram the same amount of fixtures into less time??

January is basically a winter break anyway. 3rd and 4th round of the cup where the big teams switch it round anyway.

Not sure about the Spanish clubs but the German teams all just play friendlies during the winter break anyway. When Hoffenheim were right up the top of the league a few years ago Ibisevic did his cruciate playing in some friendly in the Middle East and they tailed right off.

Neville's Valencia got tonked 7-0 by Barca last night. Not a popular guy for devotees of the Mestalla.

The last time Barca scored 7 with one player scoring 4 with the other 3 was in 1956. The 4 were scored by Luis Suarez...

Valencia have contacted Rafa Benítez about a return next season.

Incomprehensible how McClaren still has a job.

Barnsley manager Lee Johnson has been given permission to speak to Bristol City about their managerial vacancy. All this the day after Barnsley booked their place at Wembley.

That'd be a decent move for Bristol IMO.

I doubt that Gary Neville will be at Valencia for much longer. What really surprises me though is that I thought he would be very good in management. Perhaps he should have started out in the lower leagues in England.

First day in the job for Lee Johnson, I think he will do well. Seems bright enough.

Not sure about that. He spent his entire playing career in the Premier League, Champions League and with England. He's never had anything to do with lower league football save for his involvement at Salford City (which in turn is entirely different to Leagues One and Two) so there's nothing to say he'd be of any real use there, or at least it would be as much of a learning experience while on the job as his current role is. He almost certainly played against Valencia more times than he played against Oldham, Rochdale and Bury put together and I bet he's watched more of Valencia and other La Liga clubs in his work as a pundit than any of those three English, Greater Manchester/Lancashire based clubs too.
