The Live Match Discussion Thread: 2019/2020

Why are Liverpool having to play this game today when they have a more important match tomorrow? Seems bizarre.

Because the EFL refused to move it. They've managed to further devalue their already completely devalued product

It's a joke of a Quarter Final. Well done EFL. I'd love the competition to be completely sacked off once and for all.

Problem is it’s useful money for the lower league clubs and now that the JPT (or whatever) has been devalued by allowing U23s in the fans don’t turn up to that anymore. So they’ve already lost loads of money from that being devalued and adding this will just increase that.

Maybe scrap it but there needs to be a bigger cut of the PL money going to the lower league

Just bang another 5% on top of what they give and it'll more than likely cover the lot and a bit on top.

It's a shit tournament, it's only crap nostalgia keeping it alive.

Problem with the last bit is you need 11 PL sides to vote for that and although 13 should do when they are there they suddenly forget where they have come from

It's the world club cup that's caused this.

Shouldn't that be a pre season tournament rather than a mid season ballache?

Like the Europa League, it's only really the English who see it as an inconvenience and tbf Liverpool want to win it

If the competition was sacked off I don’t think there would many complaints from the PL and championship clubs.
Championship clubs know they can’t win it, most PL clubs know it’s very hard to win and requires a large amount of luck.
Top clubs see it as trophy collecting.

Championship clubs don’t want it either though. The top 6 don’t want it because of Europe and get through due to depth of squad and the bottom 10-14 dont want it because of their small squads +/- relegation battles.

It was the bigger cut going to the lower leagues I was referring to. There's only the Sky6 and Everton who aren't in a risk of going down in the next 5 years, but when teams are there they look after themselves in the short term

I think it's a good opportunity for fringe players to play. Nothing more or less

I get ya. Depends how much “the cut” is I guess.

Surprised there's not at least two posters gone down that route on here tbf

There's a thread on the dark side...

So (assuming that in the draw made afterward with ball numbers changed as we would have been number 8 or whatever, it still came out home to Liverpool - in fact, let's go further and assume that the draw came out EXACTLY as it has here, which is a statistically a massive leap), then beating the Liverpool kids would mean a semi-final. Against Man City, Manchester United and the winners of Leicester v Everton, in all realistic possibilities. Yup, that's a free trophy binned there.

It's nonsense talk.

Using it to beat Nuno for throwing the Spurs game by going too strong against Besiktas now...

Fucking gormless cunts.

Ifs and ands.

I would have liked a carabao cup semi final- who wouldnt. I also said ( despite others contradictions) that its was the best chance of europe at the time. Villa got a bonus semi final thanks to some really naff scheduling and it sticks in my craw a bit because it could have been us.

We have , however qualified for the eurpoa league latter stages and have recoivered our form enough to show that last seasons efforts were not a one season wonder and we are capable of challenging others again. Besides, its 2 legs and thats the killer. Villa lost to Bradford last time didnt they?
