The Live Match Discussion Thread: 2019/2020

The ref should be looking at the monitor and re assessing his own judgment.

Very much this but our refs have decided that screen will just gather dust.
Scrap the non use and also let's hear the VAR team like we do in cricket and if there is a screen at the stadium let's see their view as they talk us through it.

This I agree really don’t get the non audio side to VAR. Explain to us why you see you see it your way. But again we’ve chewed up 2 pages on this thread in the space of 30 minutes debating VAR. Reality is Man Utd are deserving of their lead so far.

VAR is bollocks and the PL is bent

Atkinson is giving every single thing he can to utd. The foul on origi is the kind of thing he's been giving man u all game.

A defeat for Liverpool here keeps the title interesting

Pretty sure you’ve not attended a game in Netherlands or Germany, so rather difficult for you to comment on how it went for the fans who actually go to games.
As I said, "based on what I've read".

I'll remember to dock the opinion of anyone giving an opinion on any match they didn't attend live in the future.

Seriously?

They won’t put the Audio out because they are obsessed with protecting refs. Same as they won’t let refs talk to the media to explain decisions. They don’t want their incompetence put under the spotlight.

Spot on.

Other sports mic up the refs with no issues. The FA are over-protective because they know their refs make way too many mistakes.

Compare it with the second game this morning in the rugby. Now I am not a Wayne Barnes fan at all as a ref, but throughout the game you hear what he is saying, warning players if they are close to infringing, saying what the offence might be, it's just miles better.

(Saying that Jaco Peyper could have had a better game in the Wales v France clash, I freely admit)

Unfortunately, rugby players are respectful of the ref, and any words are generally clean and seeking clarification whereas miking a ref up in football would just capture swearing aplenty.

Although Im no fan of VAR some comments on here are surely from people who wear tin foil hats to stop aliens stealing their thoughts !
The PL is bent.........................Ok :)

Pretty much odd inconsistent call but nowhere near enough to suggest he’s corrupt. If for one minute you’re suggesting he made biased calls in Man Utd favour to keep the title race alive that’s absurd and very much putting 2+2 together and coming up with 5.
Is the decision not to give a foul in the lead up to Man Utd first goal an outrageous call? No very debatable but not outrageous. Reason Liverpool didn’t win was because they were pretty crap today no other reason.

Quite like the overreactions suggesting some people might give up watching football all together because of VAR. Biggest deterrent for that today was the general quality of the game, couple of pauses for VAR hardly ruined a classic.

If that’s aimed at me, I don’t watch much football (wolves aside) anyway. At the moment football is really not enjoyable, plenty of other more interesting sports to keep me occupied. I’ll decide at the end of the season whether Wolves is worth sticking with at the £1-2k a season it costs me, if games are as flat as yesterday I suspect not.

I presume VAR ignored the obvious shirt pull in the area. No obvious check even though it was a foul

Sheff Utd prove that organisation and a game plan are plenty good enough to be a decent PL side. They'll be fine. We'll struggle against them, organised, strong at the back and bullish up top

Conversely, I fancy us at Arsenal in a couple of weeks.
