The Live Match Discussion Thread: 2019/2020

Maybe exaggerating a little with 70 but i think he could get there if he was more clinical. Lewandowski has 54 this season so it's not impossible. Not by that logic at all, i would say Lukaku gets a lot of chances or gets in a lot of positions where he should probably do better.

Got about the same conversation rate as Aubameyang in league games , both around 25%

What the fuck is Savage on about now? Penandes took it early?

How do you take a penalty early?

He's making Carragher sound impartial at the minute, plus why does he bother leaning away from the microphone when we can still here him creaming himself?

The worst part is too, if we beat Sevilla tomorrow they'll be exactly the same when we play them.

He's control is still pretty hit and miss at times, far better player now under Conte than he has been anywhere previously though. His movement is far better and as you say he's now often the platform that starts a lot of their attacks dropping short rather than the big lump who hung around the box at United.

Think defenders would be better off just leaving him when he goes short, he's not a good enough footballer to hurt you from there but it's a nightmare trying to deal with him running back into that space when he's laid it off. In the box you haven't got much choice but to get tight with him but that players right into his hands, he completely dominates people physically now and that covers a lot of the weaker aspects of his game. The goal tonight is a great example of it, very fortunate with the finish but made the defender look like a little kid when he tried to get tight and stop him turning in the box.

His control is fine I think, he can just look a bit clumsy. By no means his strong point though of course.

His movement is fantastic, especially in transition where he can drop off and then spin or pull out wide. Times it just right to give defenders enough of that dilemma whether to go with him or not so often. He completely dominated Tapsoba who is physically extremely good, he's been one of the revelations of the season since joining Leverkusen in January, so that is no mean feat either.

The commentary has been nauseating tonight. I don’t usually mind Darke but he has lost the plot.

If that’s a penalty, fine - then it’s a penalty to Copenhagen late in the second half. I’m not sure how they’re so different in terms of contact.

Yeah which isn't bad when you look at it like that but that doesn't account for the amount of times he falls over or doesn't get his shot away, misses the ball or how many of those shots are from 12 yards out or closer. I don't know the stats for all of that but that's how it always seems when i watch him. It's been said further up that you can't stop him if you get close to him, follow him deep and he turns and beats you for pace and power, don't follow him and backs in and just turns with ease. I mentioned Lewandowski earlier, if you could create a footballer and add his finishing to Lukaku i can't imagine how many goals he'd score.

Are we forgetting that Lukaku scored over 100 goals in the Premier League? At pretty much a 1 in 2 record.

he has about 100 chances every game and misses too much..but yeah he is a great forward but not completely world class for me

I think you over-exaggerate the amount of times those things happen, personally. He has also outperformed his xG this season!

I'm not doubting that Lewandowski is better by the way - he's the best there is at the moment in terms of strikers.

His touch is certainly better than it has been in the past but even tonight there was a couple that bounced a good 20 yards off him when he dropped short. I don't think he's naturally the most gifted footballer going so there's always going to be a bit of that in him compared to some. There was another one tonight when he dropped short and got time to turn with it but he just looked a bit lost, passed up a couple of simple short passes before lumping it miles over Martinez straight through to the keeper.

He's always been a bit of a rough diamond, definitely making a lot more of his assets now though and you can see a whole new side Conte has bought out in him with that desire to drop short to provide an outlet. Don't think he'll ever be as polished as someone like Lewandowski, to my mind the best all round centre forward I've ever seen, but he's asking a lot more questions of defenders now than he ever did in England.

Maybe i am, obviously don't see every game but i've watched Inter about 8 or 9 times this season and just how i always thought of Lukaku even at his best. All the piss taking at United was bollocks as he clearly wasn't happy and if you get him to do what he's good at it's great fun watching centre backs trying to deal with him like Tapsoba tonight who probably won't have a harder game in his career. He scores goals and lots of them but i feel he probably should score more with the rest of the attributes he has.

Wasn't really comparing them as they're completely different strikers, could do what i said the other way round. Add Lukaku to Lewandowski and you might get 80 goals :D

United definitely had a lot of chances but the way they have won it just sums them up. Shitty penalty and that's the theme for the season.

Weird how they then kinda hung on at the end a bit too, Fernandes and Rashford looked knackered from about 60 minutes onwards I thought. I think we'd give them a game but in all likelihood they would really struggle against Sevilla or then even Inter I think.

Yeah Copenhagen just not good enough really. Not having the no shot on target though, it might not count officially but they had 1 excellent chance in each half that definitely were going in but got blocked rather than saved. Thought they looked tired too and had to work hard there but they just seem to get a lot of things go form them. Sevilla still the best team i've seen so far but i can't have Inter. Bringing it back to Lukaku he definitely could win them any game and they have a very good defensive record recently but i think they're average in midfield and have been very lucky not to concede more in both the Europa league games so far.

I'd chuck 35m at United for Bailly if this is the only type of match he'll play for them. Got the talent to be an absolute stud. Just needs to up his concentration.

Sound like anyone we know?

Bailly's injury record is appalling, I wouldn't go near him.

As for Lukaku, he's a good finisher but as a footballer he's deeply average and that's why he's at a club who have won nothing for nearly a decade rather than a serious top end team.

Is that 21 penalties for Utd now this season? They must train their players to win them. It's ridiculous.
