The Live Match Discussion Thread: 2019/2020

How did we get landed with you then :D

Smith is very good at Championship level, Villa had no right to go on that run last season as Bruce had left behind an absolutely shite squad. But everyone has a ceiling.
Dad was a lazy sod. Went to buy me a Villa kit for my 7th birthday from Rackhams in 1979 when they were all made by Umbro in a folding box. They had sold out and he couldn't be arsed walking to Harry Parkes' so bought me a Wolves one instead with the plan to get me a Villa one for Xmas. He didn't bother as I was already in. I grew up in Burntwood which is an overspill from Brum, South Staffs and the Black Country so although there were more Villa than anyone else it wasn't weird to not support them.

My first game was 8 months before that Albion vs Everton who at the time were both in the Top 3, he wanted to see the 3 Degrees who performed before the game.

I don't have an interesting story like that :icon_lol:

I do get asked why I support Wolves though when I mention it to people I don't know as I don't sound anything like someone from Wolverhampton. Back to (at least) the 1920s in our family is the answer.

At least Afonso Alves had a decent record in a shite league. Wesley had a shite record in a shite league.

Foreign players from obscure leagues normally come cheap. So I have no idea how they managed to spend £20m+ on a donkey with a shit record in a shit league.

Smiths failure this season has mitigating circumstances. No centre halves, no forward line and various squad members too old/shit that needed to go as soon as the play off final had finished. Rumours are that he has little control over who came in.

That said he’s made mistakes, took too long to tighten them up defensively and seems to let Grealish do as he pleases.

It definitely raised eyebrows at the time. Watched the obligatory YouTube clips (I'd never heard of him when they bought him, and I like to think I know quite a bit) and you think...is that really the best you can show of him, seriously?

Still, Joelinton takes a lot of the attention off him. I'd actually watched him and knew he was shit.

Man United had more efforts on target tonight than we have had in four games Villa Bournemouth Arsenal and Sheffield. That’s why they are above us.

Yawn. They might be above us due to them having spent 100’s of millions on their squad.

We were never competing with Man Utd. They play all out attack anyway, and now they have the players to make that work.

As much as it would Be great to play that way, it won’t happen under Nuno.

My old man was one of those weird people in the 50's and early 60's who'd go to Villa, Albion and occasionally Blues. Went to a match most weeks, I've got the programmes in the loft, but wouldn't describe himself as a fan of any of them, just went for the game and obviously the cost wasn't prohibitive back then. Now looks out for Wolves more than anyone, partly because of me and partly because he gets my lads ticket if he can't make it.

I did go to Villa myself for a season in 86/7 the year they got relegated. I wasn't allowed to go to the Wolves on my own, but went there as we went to my nan and grandad's every Saturday so was dropped off and picked up. The season after I turned 15 and was deemed old enough to get the two buses on my own to Wolverhampton which coincided with us winning the 4th division

Mings is the English Zubar.

My Mom's side of the family are the Wolves back to the 1920s lot.

My Dad's family didn't give much of a shit about football so in the mid/late 60s he used to go to both Wolves and Albion. Picked the right side by about 1967 I think. Imagine.

That was my first season of being able to go on my own. A bus and two trains there, a train and a bus to within 3 miles of home. Wasn’t back in time to get the last bus to my village so it was a walk along country roads home.

Wasn't so long ago (November) he got a cap for Brazil too :spaz:

With Villa game last night even without that decision Man Utd would have still won the game. It’s ok Smith saying they started well but they never took the lead, secondly they slipped straight into sulk mode once the penalty was converted.
Thing for Villa now is how motivated are the sides they’re playing against now, Palace and Everton are in absolute beach mode now, West Ham could easily be safe by the time they meet.
No doubt will play the Everton that beat Leicester and Villa will get the one that lost at Spurs.

Behave - they also spent £80m on a centre back, £50m on a right back and another £60m on a midfielder. And that's just this season

Premier League have admitted that VAR made incorrect penalty decisions in all three games yesterday. Man United and Southampton were incorrectly awarded penalties, while Tottenham should have been given one.

Yup. The fact we are even are (or were) in the conversation is a very good achievement, with more to come.

Luton are kicking the shit out of Huddersfield. Certainly makes the Championship relegation battle entertaining. I would be delighted with a double drop for Huddersfield.
