The Live Match Discussion Thread: 2019/2020

Think I might have to retract my Villa aren’t that hopeless statement. They’ve entered shit or bust territory on Sunday v Palace.

No fight at all from Villa since the pen (which is a scandal, but fight back from it). Awful attitudes throughout that team.

Grealish is a disgrace for someone who "loves the club".

Pogba was just allowed to pick his spot.

Yep, lovely strike but don't bother closing him down eh boys?

I'm annoyed that it is United he's doing it for but I'm enjoying watching him in the form he has been in alongside Fernandes.

Smith should probably just hook Grealish now if he’s that important to them, this games long gone and Sunday is absolutely huge. Big factor to all this is what type of Newcastle side rocks up at Watford on Saturday.

I said to you after the Spurs game that it was fine doing it once, but all too often he doesn't and that had to change.

In fairness to him he has played well in pretty much every game. Maybe the penny finally has dropped because there's no doubt about the ability.

I still say he was SHITE against us in both games at Molineux last season though :D

Indeed. The captain Girlish casually strolling back to inspire his team at the 'drinks break'.

Nev calling him out but it's only what a lot of us have been saying for months. Fannies around in nothing areas, falls over, free kick near halfway. Big wow. He doesn't impact on games properly and he gives up.

I remember posting around xmas that this might be the season where the mythical 40 points were actually needed. No doubt Covid has had an impact, but likely you'll stay up with 33 or less now

Villa had 25 points with 14 games left!

The last few games I've seen Grealish the more I've thought he's a coward of a player. Hides from the ball, never attacks in danger areas and just points like a long haired Jamie O'Hara.

Seems the worm is turning on Twitter with Villa fans questioning Mings and his value. I appreciate it's Twitter and you've only got to look at the hyperbole on Wolves Twitter last night but these were calling TalkSPORT saying he was on par with VVD.

From a CH and a RB
Smith could undoubtedly have done better, indulging Grealish the most obvious example, but I do have sympathy for him that he was handed zero forwards of any real quality by his recruitment team. Wesley is the new Alfonso Alves.

Villa 'should' comfortably be a PL side, them coming up and going back again is a failure at every level of the club

I think it helps a lot that he’s playing in a competent team and most importantly, alongside another midfielder on his level!

Thing is you make that error (and it was pretty clear by January it was one), he gets injured and you buy someone with the exact same profile!

The DoF (the one who looks like Richard Madeley) seems to be in the firing line rather than Smith at the moment as far as the board are concerned.

I think ultimately they will both go. I like Smith, both my parents came from Great Barr, Dad still lives there so I think I'm unnaturally sympathetic!

How did we get landed with you then :D

Smith is very good at Championship level, Villa had no right to go on that run last season as Bruce had left behind an absolutely shite squad. But everyone has a ceiling.
