The Live Match Discussion Thread: 2019/2020

Decent result for us, the worst result would have been a sheff Utd win, but I’m quite happy villa didn’t win either....

Ozil not even on the bench for Arsenal. Arteta says he'll talk about it after the game, sk presumably there's a story there

Right. This cannot be any worse than that tripe.

Someone has to explain what the VAR officials were doing? They could clearly see it was a goal very quickly. It’s a complete and utter reliance on GLT. An attitude of it can’t possibly be wrong.

The pace of this match is streets ahead of the previous game.

The var system had a chance to prove its worth due to the obvious error. It failed due to human incompetence.

It's mad isn't it. The VAR there to stop clear and obvious errors and had the chance to step in following a clear and obvious error by Hawkeye and failed to do so.

I don't blame Michael Oliver for relying on Hawkeye, but the VAR is there with all the angles available to him that we/Sky had and did nothing.

Obvs it's a good result for us, but unforgivable from a VAR perspective.

Not all technology is a 100% fail proof but usually when it does fail it’s investigated properly and rectified. Conversely if it does a back up solution needs to kick in. Not the attitude of its plan A and that’s it.
Simple case everytime there’s a GLT close call check it on camera to. If the tech fails and it’s to close to call fair enough but when it fails and it’s blatantly obvious it’s gone in it can be easily rectified.

I’d need to see his positioning and the reaction of the Sheff Utd players. Most players when near by to a close call will appeal but will accept when the ref says it’s no goal. The Sheff Utd players were celebrating and hounding him as to why it wasn’t given. That should have alerted some alarm bells combined with the fact nyland fell in the net.

2 Arsenal injuries already. They’re doing ok so far tbh though surely only a matter of time until City cut through them.

Normally the graphic shows almost immediately Why it has ruled a goals or not. The fact that it didn’t should have meant that it was checked. I’m sure The Sheffield players would have asked if var could look at it. If the GLT hadn’t given a decision Oliver could shave asked that question to Stockley Park. On the other hand shouldn’t stockley park be reviewing all goal decisions?

Great, more delays to the game. GLS has worked perfectly in every game up to today, let’s not infect it with the VAR mess.

Mings' reaction is the biggest tell

How long did it take for everyone to know it was over the line clearly? Seconds so seriously what’s the problem? To add technology should have a fail safe or back up in a case of failure going to Stockley Park very quickly seriously wouldn’t be a problem.
You’ve answered it yourself if it rarely ever happens what’s wrong if once in a blue moon it has to be reviewed?

It’s VAR, nothing is quick or simple.

Some things never change, David Luiz still capable of a clanger.
