His full view is blocked, hence the offside call.

Easy for us to see it from the camera angles but put yourself at eye level and that ball vanishes, probably for less than a second but that's enough. Never saving it regardless but that's not the point.

Carlo should be shouting in the face of the lazy fook having a nice quiet sit down rather than the ref.

Too right. If the lazy bugger gets up and he had plenty of chance to then its a moot point. De Gea isnt getting the deflection 99 times out of 100. Still a point for each is great for us!

He does see the deflection though, and the ball going to his near post. Otherwise he wouldn't have stopped himself to try and get back.

This is the bit that bothered me. Deflection seen therefore he wasn't obstructed and the ball didn't deviate. By the letter of the law he's offside but I wonder if it was the other way round if that call had been given.

By the letter of the law he's not offside. In an offside position, yes, but makes no attempt to play the ball (in fact, gets out of the way) and doesn't obstruct an opposing player.
Yes, he should have stopped throwing a paddy and got off his arse thus removing any question of him being off, but he wasn't offside.

If he was stood up and let the ball go through his legs then he'd definitely have been given offside and there wouldn't be an argument, don't see how this is any different just because he's decided to have a bit of a sit down.

That he's on the ground is exactly what makes it different. Appear to be in the minority though, so will shut up.

I struggle to see how people are debating this. It’s blatantly off...

He might have seen the deflection but then when he leans to the right he reacts late to it round Sigs head. Whether he’d have saved it if he wasn’t there is irrelevant. You also can’t promise he’d have been stood in the exact same position had he not been there.

We’d be fuming if this was given against us. As Maguire said, if the Lino raised his flag like he should have done (he moved his feet out the way of the ball FFS) then all of this would have been avoided and it wouldn’t have even been discussed

Chelsea gone strong tonight and Lonners on the bench for Liverpool

Piss poor from Adrian, he is the reason they're in this round though.

Three decent saves from Kepa there, all straight at him though. Although saying that, shooting straight at the keeper hasn't done Chelsea any harm.

I would like Sheff utd Chelsea and Arsenal to have great cup runs! Chelsea in the final could be great for us last game a week before the final!

If it’s for a champions league place the league will take precedence. Being the pessimist that I am I’d like city or Liverpool to win on the basis that they will finish above us in the table. Will ensure that Euro places go down to 7th or 8th.

Would be the same with Chelsea winning it wouldn't it?

Probably! They should finish in the top 7/8.

I know, as a Wolves fan I shouldn't. But I actually dislike Newcastle more than WBA. Come on the Tesco's!

Worst scenario is one of the traditional Big 6 winning it, but not finishing in the Top 6. Perfectly feasible for Arsenal and Spurs

I was thinking there would be a decent chance of them being a little more reserved if they had a cup final a week later. Mind you we could have the Europa final the same week!
