Wow thats a very depressing view, I hope you're wrong, I'm hopeful that we can get back on track to reducing racism in a few years time, its never too late surely? I still feel on the whole a big majority of people in this country are 'good' people, well intentioned and that will shine through eventually. Perhaps there is too much hope in my views, hope not.
One thing that did depress me recently was a discussion with my lad, I was of the opinion that racism among his generation (30 somethings) was a thing of the past, but he reckons not, that is worrying
It worries me, of course it does for my grankids sake, but i am very much a glass half full man at all times. I just think that racism has always been there, PC tried to do something about it, but the argument that Bernard Manning was just telling jokes (for example) sums up just how seriously this was taken at grass roots level. It is a notion(racism) that is built into so many people that really believe they have a right to crack a funny or take the piss out of someone of a different colour or religious belief. If you look how fast Europe as a whole is moving right and then farther right, it's there and there can be no real dispute about it.
What worries me most from a footie point of view, is if the Fa or FIFA have to make a decision , just what happens if my side are two nil up, the abuse starts and they walk off the pitch. Who wins the game?, my team or do we have a replay and when my team are two nil up again, off we go game abandoned again, we don't win they don't lose but the racist fans (or psuedo racist fans keep them from losing the points) and off we go again????
we have seen how FIFA and EUFA are dealing with racism, a club playing regular european footie (with the tv fees, match fees and all) gets a 20,000 fine and the crowd locked out for one game, or not actually as in our own experience this season.
it is sad but racism has never gone away since the second world war finished, it took a breather maybe, but it was always there and still is.
We all know Farage is a clueless twat, but by frightening the population that all the syrian refugees would end up in Britain if we stayed in the EU, look how much attention he got, and what happened next, and don't even ask me about Donald the wall builder.
If we cannot stop our own so called responsible politicians, we've go no chance at Millwall.
