The Live Match Discussion Thread: 2019/2020

You could be right, but isn't the referee and fourth official supposed to offer the option at that point maybe?

It feels awful to be discussing this here. We must never moan about other countries again while our own act is clearly not as cleaned up as we thought.

Hang on - there was a second PA announcement? Under the FIFA protocols, then the referee should be bringing the teams off there.

Pretty sure there was 3 announcements but i think they all probably related to the one indicent to be honest. I think the club just wanted to make folks they were aware of it.

There was about fifteen minute spread between the three announcements. You could be right, but the timings suggest maybe not.

We have to wait and see what the outcome is from investigations I guess.

well that leaves us nicely in 6th place, i'll take that all day, and there will be repercussions for spuds after the racism surely.

Spurs must be on some sort of second warning. The banana thing with Auba wasn’t that long ago.

Fucking shit we are even talking about this. Johnson and brexit have a shit load to answer for.

Second line is absolutely right.

Thanks for emboldening the utter fucking cunts in the sewer of our gene pool.

r.

Oh, I am sorry I didn't realise that that racism didn't exist before 2016. Ffs.

Dont chat fucking shite. If you can't realise how things have got worse and are allowing this to happen, thats on your ignorance

Again!

You just can't resist can you. My ignorance lolz. I love the way its always down to me not knowing or experiencing . Things are in no way worse now than the 80/90s. To claim so is just plain stupid. Blaming racism on brexit is even more crass and stupid. That's not to say there is not more that must still be done. Danny Murphy also panned the pfa for not doing more earlier on motd 2.

Put the bottle away Cyber, you've had enough and you're making a bellend of yourself. You'll read this back in the morning and be thoroughly embarrassed.

You're ignorant if you think it didn't get much better and has got much worse since Brexit, Trump, the harassing of MP's and cunts like Tommy Robinson hiding behind free speech. Gary Neville called it right and the PFA too. Murphy's a fucking arsehole of a man always criticising but never coming up with any solutions, I'd be happy for him to disappear off our TV screens forever.

I wish I had been drinking. The double standards on multiple threads here are astounding.

Think you're both right actually, as Cyber says, things were much worse in years ago (I'd say 70-80's) before getting better. There has been a spike in recent years which hopefully is just that, there is no doubt the far right have seen events as a useful platform, the fact we're discussing it suggests there are enough people with their eye on the ball.
Seems to me Cyber has similar ideals to you and others but everyone seems to be falling out in a fairly abusive manner when they really ought to be fighting the same fight.

Where we disagree is when Cyber says it's no worse now to the 90's but fails to acknowledge that we have put systems in place, we've stopped throwing bananas and generally up until Brexit and the rise of the far right racism was becoming socially unacceptable. Sadly circumstances in our politics on all sides has meant a more devicive nation where once we were becoming progressive has seen a regression in attitudes.

Racism never went away, the racists just learnt that their opinions weren't socially acceptable outside of their own circles or perceived circles. I've been involved in countless conversations over the years, mainly with people older than I, where their default assumption as a white male is that you share their views.

The last few years and whether people like it or not the trigger point was Brexit, there has been an emboldening of racists where they feel free to opine more openly again. Comparing Mulsim women to letterboxes isn't a new analogy, the now Prime Minister doing it is a game changer in acceptability

There has been a spike in prejudice and intolerance over the last three years. To say that brings us back to the days I mention I would say is inaccurate. I do, however, think it is very naive and utopian to think human beings have no prejudices. We all do. It’s when we act on them thee is conflict.

I am not religious and wish to know nothing more on Christianity, Islam, Buddhism or similar. That does not make me phobic. It does not make me intolerant as I respect everyone’s right to worship. I do , however, reserve the right to grumble when I am being preached too.

I also have a prejudice with language. How come it’s ok for the N word between gangsta rappers to be used? It’s always offensive. So is the Y word at spurs. So is the Q word in the gay and drag community. My prejudice is that I believe those words have no place in any society ever. Zero tolerance.
There were 50000 people with their own prejudices at spurs yesterday and about 10 of them acted on their racist prejudice. The law should come down hard.
