The January 2025 Transfer Thread

Only wolves could have a situation that within an hour of winning a big game we get told we’ve failed in another signing.

On to the ahhh fuck it list again.

Looking at the Danso deal and this is where Hobbs should be out of a job by Tuesday if another CB hasn't arrived. I know the main cry will be Fosun out but the money, to a degree is there just looks like amateur hour in the sporting department.

Juve - Walked away from the Danso deal Friday. Next option due to fly to Turin today.

Rennes - Back up option arriving from Stuttgart today.

Us - No clue but good guess we are sat in a dark room just saying shit shit shit shit
Hobbs is useless, that is obvious. He's been promoted way above his capabilities.

Briefly we had him. That side of it is out of our control....what follows is in our control but I doubt any of us think we will do anything

We've done it countless times, it's the Wolves Way (under Shi)
It's not so much the time spent because some deals will drag on and not always the clubs fault. See Gomes as a good example, a delay totally out of our control before it got sorted.
Our issue, is the tunnel vision we appear to have - its that player and no one else and then it goes tits up and we are having to start a process all over again but with hours to spare.

could be wrong and we have many plates spinning but past evidence suggests not.

We're never going to know the full story behind targets but at times we handicap ourselves.

Look at last year - loan out Fabio and Sasa and explicitly say in public that we've let them go early in the window to free up wages/room in the squad to bring in a forward that the manager actually wants.

Then as far as we know, we do absolutely bugger all for three weeks, then chase a random Brazilian in the final 48 hours, and when we (quite rightly) refuse to throw money at an agent we end up with no-one. And Nathan Fraser and Leon Chiwome end up playing in an FA Cup quarter final.

Spent ages trying to get Broja and Chelsea started out at £35m or something daft before changing to a loan deal that essentially had a clause that was "when you realise he is a bit shit and don't play him, you owe us £7m"
Fulham went for that and had to pay it, we obviously said no ta, too risky even if we only have L2 standard players available

That's mostly fair but when we were chasing Danso at the start of the window and got knocked back, we immediately went for Agbadou, that's all good. We should have realised then that Danso is a cunt and moved on, the mistake was letting Danso string us along.
If theres any truth we are in for a CM and forward, then there is no excuse for not having them by now. Overall out recruitment team is amateur.

CM is definitely a target unless Bellegarde has just saved us the effort of trying.

Forward is a desire rather than an urgent requirement.

Vitor has said since Agbadou arrived - CB and CM. We have neither with the window being very close to closing.

Yep probably doing his best but is in a position way above his expertise
That's right.
If we are to ever aspire to being a top club in English football again then we must have people on the board and in senior leadership who have achieved at that level in football and therefore have the respect of people in the game.
At the moment we have nothing so we are going nowhere except through the attentions and game playing of Jorge Mendes and the occasional interest of Chairman Guo.
:mad::cautious:

Don't worry, I'm sure Tanganga and Brownhill will here before the deadline.

Millwall fans absolutely rave about Tanganga.

He must have improved a lot from his Spurs days because he looked horrific for them.

Sounds and looks a very decent championship player, probably has the same PL errors in him just isn’t punished as much.

It wasn't just errors, he looked like Ethan Ebanks-Landell on the ball and was also a walking red card.

He might have developed? Toti never looked like he'd be good enough for the PL when he was at grasshoppers

Who does he look like? Reminds me of someone but I can't quite figure it out.
Gabriel M. at Arsenal, kind of…

Boy, this is a dangerous game! 😅

I think it’s tough to say that, with hindsight; IMO it’s more like it’s impossible to say “yeah those performances in Suisse are definitely going to translate”. The gap is massive (obviously) so I don’t think folks were wrong to be skeptical at the time, though I do think it’s still subconsciously held against him. He still gets more unnecessarily qualified praise than he deserves (which is to say, I think he’s a PL CB through and through, maybe not a fantastic one but good, reliable, and flexible).
