The January 2025 Transfer Thread

Blaming the squad size when they don’t want to send back a player that they have no need for?
Forbs is home grown so doesn't count towards the 17 foreign players we're allowed. So makes no difference if he stays or goes.

Lemina leaving frees up one more non-HG space for a replacement midfielder, and Danso would qualify as HG so wouldn't count either.

If we want another midfielder/forward then we'd have to leave out or get rid of someone else though. I guess that's what they're talking about with regards squad restrictions.

We seem to be doing great at getting rid of players.

Maybe Hobbs is prioritising that before he brings in new ones?

Supermarket sweep this weekend.

In principle, but you've got Sasa who despite what GON said back in November hasn't been reported as being on the training pitch and Sarabia who has 5 months left on his contract and has been ineffective when playing that would cost a couple of million to pay off or just not register.

If you want to do business then you don't not make a signing because they are taking up slots. It's more club led gaslighting which as always LL swallows.

That's also before making football decisions on the likes of Bueno, Traore and Guedes.

Hobbs has very little to do with it at the minute. Jeff has gone full-on Mendes.
Has he? Agbadou isn't him, Danso isn't. We did use him an intermediary for the kid that went to Benfica like we have before with players who aren't really in our range like Cunha. We may turn to him in the next couple of days when we can't sign anyone ourselves like we did when we couldn't get anyone to manage us, but I don't see a deliberate Mendes strategy going on. I don't really see any strategy other than an incompetent one.

Agbadou was absolutely facilitated by Mendes to get the deal done. It was reported in more than one place in French media.

He's currently behind everything going on this window. Unsurprising as he's Shi's go to guy when we are in trouble.
Fair enough. I still don't think he's leading everything, tbf to him he gets deals done and doesn't let us piss around. Even the deal that fell down was sorted between the clubs

"Ooooh - 3 more pages on this thread since I looked this morning. That must mean something is happening......"

One rumour site saying we've made an official bid for Johnny Cardoso of 20m Euros, they want 30m, sounds familiar.
Is he actually any good, I thought he was a 60s American game show host.

Yeah, it's more bs and a red-herring for the fact they can't find anyone HG to recruit, not that the squad size is too bloated.

Really disappointed by the Lemina situation. Came in and had a great impact, POTS last year and felt like he had matured a lot. Think he said similar in an interview about how he thought there was a lot of personal growth during his time at Wolves. We don't know the full story but it's clear his time at us matches the pattern of the rest of his career. Never settling and often falling out. Not first-choice but leaves us short on numbers when we're already proving inept at getting improvements in, let alone replacing depth.

If we go down we've had, what, two good transfer windows during our entire seven year spell in the Prem? One of which was the initial summer we were promoted.

When you put it like that (and you're correct) it's amazing we've lasted this long!

I think it was a superb gesture by the club. It’s a shame it’s gone tits up since.
Maybe that’s why I’m abit meh about it all, as feel it’s been thrown back at the club. Naturally don’t know the full story, but assuming Mario has reverted to type.

500k loan fee wasn’t it?
