The January 2025 Transfer Thread

"Wolves hierarchy are in full on panic mode. Jeff Shi doesn't know what to do, and Matt Hobbs is storming around the offices giving death stares to anybody who goes near him".

Better than saying that I suppose.
It's true, no PR official in worth a lick of salt would let that through. I wish they would, though.

Hasn't he already played for Galatasaray and Lyon this season already, so couldn't join a 3rd team?

MLS are just about to head into their 2025 season next month which he is then allowed to play in.
Don't know if the Turkish Super Cup and an unused sub count or not?

Jan 1st - Feb 2nd - Wolves are relaxed about the situation

Feb 3rd - Wolves are surprised Cunha has left and are now regretting the previous stance of being relaxed about it all

They're likely to be in the CL next year, EL at a minimum. They can spend what they want really.

I'd be surprised if Cunha chose Forest, whether they have the money or not.
They've done very well this season and maybe they'll maintain it better than we did but you'd expect the draw of one of the really big clubs would be too much.
Yeah in a binary choice of Wolves and Forest it's a no brainer, but I'd expect him to wait for something better in the Summer if it isn't there now. With 2 years left we'd probably have to sell, although I think most of us were expecting we would anyway.

I also don't see how he and MGW work together, having 2 players just do their own thing is 1 too many.

Well this thread has turned into a real knock fest. Offer a different point of view or perspective and the usual candidates come out wimpering.

OK, I fully accept that the last three years have been particularly poor and that Fosun / Shi haven't covered themselves in any glory but it seems to me, and this is just my perspective, that some of our fans really don't understand how the game has changed over the tenure of Fosun.

They purchased us in 2016. It was the year the world transfer record was broken when Pogba went to Utd for £89 million. In 2018, Coutinho joined Liverpool for a reported £106 million plus add on's making his fee £142 million. Our top transfer in 2016 was Cavaleiro at £7 million before we signed Costa for £13 million in 2017. That was then followed by Neves in July 2017 for £15 million and then Traore for £18 million in 2018. In 2019 we bought Raul for a reported £32 million and then Silva for £35 million in 2020. Then covid hit.

Fosun have shown a willingness to spend money and to recruit but it seems to be that they see this as a way to make money by reselling what they hope will be an appreciating asset. As we've seen at clubs like Southampton it is a hard task to carry out and retain Premiership status. Brighton have done it to a large extent but even they are falling backwards in terms of league position.

For me, it is really easy to criticise and complain about our current team, our past managers, the coaching and the Fosun ownership but what I don't see on this forum is much balance or understanding of the overall situation we face. It seems dead easy to say invest money, buy this player, buy that player etc but the reality is that recruitment (players / managers / coaches) is always always the hardest task in football but the most critical.

Fosun have a strategy and while it is open to criticism, they have delivered on their initial promise to this point. Obviously, relegation would be a severe blow but it isn't going to be the end of our club. We have bounced back from much worse.

That said, Fosun / Shi really do need to wise up in regard to alienating fans. In times of difficulty fans are more important than ever. Pissing them off with ridiculous ticket increases and dumb public statements does them no favours.

As always in football, winning changes everything. We have 16 games to start doing that and save our Premiership status. We, as fans, have our own part to play in that.

It would take a ridiculous offer to even consider selling Cunha. There's no release clause in his contract, is there?

Maybe if he asked for a transfer, downing tools essentially, it might be different. But I don't think he's like that. He'll just wait for the summer.

This year's FFP shows you all you need to do is find someone to buy Nathan Fraser for £20m and buy a duffer from them. The kid Villa bought from Everton and then loaned to Norwich has played 19 games 0 goals, 0 assists
