The January 2025 Transfer Thread

Godfrey can play across the back line but I agree, we can (I hope) do better.

In his first season at Everton he was decent, got into the England squad I think, been a fair time now though. If it were the Summer I'd say it's worth having a look, we can't afford reclamation projects now though

Mediocrity is probably an upgrade on our current defenders tbf.
Harsh!

I still firmly believe that on talent alone we should be alright back there. Not to say we can’t improve said talent level with transfers, but IMO 90% of our trash GA record is squarely down to Gitflip’s “tactics”.

I’d prefer Toti to Godfrey almost every time, as an example. Accepting, of course, that I think I rate Totes more highly than most here do.

Yeah just taking advantage of an open goal.
Semedo is decent, Santi has been steady and RAN is fine defensively when his head is right. Toti is what he is, quick and athletic but a bombscare on the ball.
Dawson is done unfortunately.

Wolves recently made a loan offer with an option to buy for Kevin Danso from Lens. Vitor Pereira is very keen on the transfer.

Fenerbahçe is close to reaching an agreement with Lens for 26-year-old defender Kevin Danso. (Barış Yurduseven)

Dawson’s so tough, he still offers something (who knew he could ping diagonals like he was doing against Spurs?) but it’s painfully clear that he just can’t move like he used to (even just relative to last season).

Not sure what to do with him in the summer. I’d say get him to a more appropriate level, but equally the specter of replacing him with some poor kid who isn’t ready looms large.

The petty bitch in me wants to blame O’Neil for speeding Dawson toward retirement because of how consistently we allowed our CBs to get exposed and/or isolated. There’s a cost for putting your players under a pressure cooker.

We don't have a centre half who should be a first team starter for a side outside of the relegation zone in the PL. Toti and Bueno are OK reserves, both protected more in a 3, Mosquera still impossible to judge as he got injured during the height of Gazball. Dawson is 35 before the end of the season, there's not some deeper meaning to his fall off, it was happening last season and has accelerated this. Doherty a nice surprise, but sooner or later needs to be consigned to the any port in a storm pick it was.

Someone was slagging Dragusin off when we played Spurs yet he'd be our best centre half by a mile. Don't let a couple of decent results colour your judgement.

Danso looks like Vítor’s top target. If we want to sign two CB’s & we know what Fosun are like, it wouldn’t surprise me at all if Godfrey/Tanganga are the level of the second player.

Sounds like it’s happening though, Alasdair Gold reporting it now
