The January 2025 Transfer Thread

Having Matt Doherty as one of your 3 CBs on a regular basis is something not one of us would sign up for. The fact that he has not been the worst of the 3 CBs is a damning indictment of the lack of forward planning by the club. I'm not bothered if he plays as a back-up in that position as he's done 'alright' there. I hope that he isn't a regular from this day forward.

I've got a feeling he will be. Vítor wants a full back as part of the back 3. Depends what he sees Toti as tbh.

I think that's exactly how Pereira sees Toti, a sort of LB/CB combination, maybe sees Djiga as similar on the right?

Mate it's not something that Alan has just made up. It's a well established thing - black players are more often talked about for their physicality and less often for technique or intelligence. For white players, the opposite tends to be true.

Note "tends to be true" - clearly not every time, so finding an example of me saying Dendonker was techniqueless athlete doesn't disprove racial stereotypes.

But Hobbs is talking saying we signed Nassr because he's quick and aggressive, not we signed a random black player and we're hoping he's quick and aggressive, because he's black.

Or did we sign we sign him because he's of average speed and get knocked off the ball easily?

I'm as far left and PC as they come but looking for shit that isn't there while we're getting dry humped by billionaires isn't right here.

Doherty has shown he can have decent games at RCB but I don't want him there regularly as he still makes positional mistakes in his own box.

Agba, Djiga, Toti, Bueno, Doherty

That should be the new order, unless the first two aren't available. Then Doc slips back into RCB.

Overall I think it finished up as a decent window , even more than decent . I genuinely thought that we wouldn't be able to get 2 centre backs , I felt we would be doing well to get one quality one .
Another midfielder too - totally different to J Gomes and Andre and a lot bigger as well . Then last Saturday we end up discovering another one - already at the club , in Bellgarde !
Cunha signs up and removes his distraction . Lemina disappears as well - good for him and good for the club - I did not like his attitude in the last month and even prior to that since around November , but listen , he's gone now so let's move on .
There are signs as well that VP is getting his message across as to the players in his style of play and they appear to be buying into it . We possible have an opportunity now to finish the season in a strong fashion if they all pull together and the new players all bed in .
It does depend on injuries though as well which are just bad luck and nothing else .

Last autumn better for you?
I couldn't care less about an interviews that are nothing to do with Wolves!?

Also, what is wrong with being disappointed about not being picked anyway!?

I really don't understand why he offends people so much.

I'm still a bit doubtful that Munetsi is the exact midfielder Vitor was asking for. The previous ones we tried to sign were much more of ball players as well as good defensively.

Cardoso, Brazhko and who was the guy that fell through before all those? I've completely forgotten!

He offends me as he's shite and shouldn't be playing for a PL team at RB, RWB, RCB, LB or LWB. The fact that I've spent over 9 years of watching him do his half arsed shambling tracking back is positively offensive.

Manu Silva?

Wonder if Jorge has a cut from the 2 deals we did.

Generally though he has been shit for us this window

Manu - Seems he used us to get Benfica moving
Danso - Went in and banged heads together...and the player got concussion and joined Spurs by mistake.

Late in the day shift with Bellegarde finally turning up and showing us what he is about?

Bellegarde providing the midfielder we thought we needed and Munetsi becoming the midfielder we thought Bellegarde actually was.

Yeah, assuming Jean’s performance over the weekend wasn’t a false dawn, I’d guess André as #6/#4, Jean or João as a slightly more “stay at home” #8, and Munetsi (if he’s worth the price) as the #8 looking to make late runs, crash the box, etc.

I think most people would have scoffed if you'd suggested Conor Coady would be a top Premier League centre half in the middle of a back three when up to that point he'd been a average centre mid/right back/whatever - then Nuno rocked up. Could it be that we're seeing a similar 'role'/move being made by Doc away from RB to CB?

Doc (like most footballers) has his faults - but if we're able to negate the majority of those by putting him in at RBC, I'm all for that. I think his worst blooper this season was when he was dragged out to the RB position and got isolated/absolutely skinned - but then he's admitted himself that he struggles to get up and down the field. At this point in his career, if we've now found a position where we can get the best out of his positive attributes, happy days.

As far as him "not looking arsed" or whatever, he seems well liked in the dressing room by his teammates - always has done. He is very dry, but I like that sense of humour - and he doesn't cause us problems (see a recent captain of the club as to how many issues that can create) - so I've no issues with him being part of the squad.

Bringing up performances/interviews from 10+ years ago is weird. Holding grudges against someone for so long is also weird. He's clearly grown into one of the more liked senior pros at the club - does that mean I don't want us to improve the team and eventually phase him out to squad duty rather than a guaranteed starter? Obviously not.

I don’t know about holding a grudge so much as pointing out that he massively undercut himself by being a prick before he made his senior debut here. Fairly or not, first impressions stick, and he did nothing to change minds with his performances for 6ish years.

We do go OTT on him at times, no doubt, but he’s made some of that bed himself.
