So with Lemina, Gomes, and Sarabia - and de-registering Sasa and Chiquinho until they've recovered in the summer ahead of next season - the first-team squad looks like (*=U-21)...

GK: Sa, Sarkic

CB: Kilman, Collins, Toti, Mosquera*

F/WB: Semedo, Jonny, Aït-Nouri*, Bueno*, Lembikisa*

MF: Neves, Nunes, Moutinho, B Traore*, Lemina, Gomes*, Hodge*, Ronan

AM: Neto, Guedes, Podence, A Traore, Campbell*

FW: Cunha, Sarabia, Jimenez, Costa, Hwang

The dead weight is obvious. Ronan (lol), Adama, Hwang... Assume at least a new CB on top of all this (Felipe) though and that means we still need to shed numbers to fit within the squad size limit. You could maybe make a case that Costa's in the no-longer-needed group too, maybe?

At the risk of being slightly negative, there doesn't seem much balance in those options if we are to play 3 of. It puts a hell of a lot of pressure on our front 3 scoring pretty much all of our goals.

You may be right, perhaps with better players around him Nunes might get a few goals?
I'd assume between now and the start of next season we'd have better AM options.....I might be getting carried away.

Exciting, but we need absolute minimum one CB through the door this month.

I'm really excited by Gomes, reading some interviews and reports it looks like he's technically capable of being more than just a deep destroyer (fnar) too, and that his attacking output is a tactical decision rather than a technical issue.

Sarabia will be a great signing too, bags of quality and a really hard worker. Lemina I'm less convinced by, but if he's a replacement for Hodge then it puts us in a better position and is ultimately going to be better for the lad's development too to go and play 90 minutes week in week out.

The Brazilian league is the correct one to be nabbing those players from, IMO.

I'm stoked. Fingers crossed Gomes lives up to the hype.

Sarkic, Kilman and Ronan are our only three HG players over the u21 cap.

Collins, Mosquera, RAN, Boubacar and Gomes would all need to form part of the 25 for 23/24, so long as we survive.

Bueno, Hodge and Lembikisa wouldn't need to be included next season either.

That leaves:

Sa

Semedo, Jonny, Toti

Neves, Nunes, Moutinho, Lemina

Sarabia, Cunha, Podence, Neto, Hwang, Adama, Guedes, Chiquinho

Raul, Costa, Kalajdzic

That equals 19, so take out Sasa and Chiquinho for this season and we have our 17 spots filled. If we're adding a further non-HG centre back, someone will have to make way.

For next season, Collins and RAN will both be HG.
