Let's hope this isn't another Lage, where he came out and said we are trying to get players in and we end up with very little.

Well the Sporting Director is saying the same thing as JL.

Previously it was just Lage giving it the big one and then back tracking when his bosses didn't do what he had previously "demanded" and then generic excuses rolled out

The manager has specifically said he wants at least six. First one in on day one. Everyone in the club talking about multiple signings.
Lopetegui hasn't specifically said this has he?
Yes, the club are openly indicating multiple signings targeted, but only that bbc article said up to 6?

It'd be quite something for a manager to publicly say he's actively wanting to change over half the starting X1.

Outlets like the BBC don't report it as fact unless it's very well sourced. If you look at the relative relationships between them Lopetegui and Balegue it's not difficult to join the dots. I don't think it's 6 starters, it's 6 for the matchday 20. We've already seen what he wants for 90 minutes and the drop off if we can't do it. It won't be a net plus 6 if Raul, Guedes and whoever else leave

There’s also been multiple reports that he wants “older players with previous experience”. Lemina falls in to that bracket, and having committed to spending £40m on Cunha, I can see why they’re targeting players around the £8-10m mark to bulk the squad up.

I will remind anyone before they jump on this that it was me that posted the original Lemina Twitter link on here and I wrote beneath it “not a fan”.

I think we can do better, but I wouldn’t get bent out of shape over signing some more experienced players like this. If the choice is between having Lemina or Hodge in the matchday squad, it’s a simple choice. It’s easy for us to sit here and say “but there’s better”. We’ve been in the bottom three practically all season and that’s going to be a tough sell to most quality players in what’s already a difficult window.

I watched Hodge pretty closely last night, he was fine at what he does. Kept the ball in the main, didn’t panic, played with maturity, has legs to a certain level and played a few decent 15 yard balls for Adama to not run onto. He's not without talent, what he isn't is the pressing player Lopetegui wants at the top of his midfield, but we didn’t have that player on the bench as an alternative, he played further to the right to clearly try and cover Traore's lack of cover for Semedo, but in doing so created a different issue in the centre. Unlike his predecessors Lopetegui recognises Moutinho isn't a 90 minute player anymore, particularly in this system and what he's asked to do in it. Hodge isn't the answer to that, but it's not his fault.

Diario Sport (2 million followers, one of which is Fabrizio Romano, so I assume are fairly reliable) have tweeted to say Barcelona are in the advanced stages to sign Neves in the summer, with us getting either Franck Kessie or Nico Gonzalez as part of the deal.

I don’t believe anything Laporta says.

He’s just trying to turn Ruben’s head.

He’ll only have a year left right? So far he’s been an absolute credit to the club so can’t see him being a dick. He’ll do what’s right for him anyway

I assume he intends to pay us in “levers”.

The football world would be a lot better if Barcelona went bust.

Saw the other day they can no longer do that.
Need to shift a fairly hefty amount off the wage bill before signing anyone.

They will of course speak with players regardless and they of course will want to speak to them.

Would say hope we demand money upfront rather than a payment plan but we will be controlled by Mendes on that front. For every good bit he brings our way we pay for it in other ways.

Would Jeff do that though? Would he be worried that Jorge cuts ties with the club if he speaks up? How would Gao the ultimate boss take that?
I suspect Jeff would roll over let them have what they want, and take the rubbish they want to offload because no one else wants them
