We’re not in the position though where our focal point just needs to put the ball in the net. They will be required to do other jobs, correct press, runs, link up etc. we need someone to put the ball in the back of the net, Ofcourse. But that can’t just be their only real trait.

Players like that don't really exist anymore.

The language used was interesting saying there are a plethora of forwards to choose from. Neglected to say most of them aren't fit for purpose.
If we'd have had fit forwards, we'd all be still singing "Bruno's taking us to Europe"*

*according to Bruno

Could well be the case we get somebody else but I think that depends on Raul.

If he is gone then we will need another.

I notice on the official site today following his press conference JL mentioned Raul is getting closer to where he wants to be and he's important for us.

The Raul situation is the most interesting one . He is the only one of our existing forwards who has done it in the past , and done it with style as well , scoring all kinds of goals .
We know what we are going to get with Costa , Hwang , Podence , Adama and maybe Guedes as well ( although I'd give him a little more time , just a little ) .
Lopetegui's anger with Raul's insistence on going to the World Cup , when he clearly was not fit , possibly showed that he knew that Raul has far greater potential to re discover his form , than any other forward we have , and probably that staying at Compton was a better option than Qatar .
In addition , Lopetegui only has January to find a scoring forward or two - and then , even buying a few always brings a risk that it won't work out as they might not have played in the PL before . Perhaps he believes that a punt on Raul is better than a punt on a new striker .

I think Costa might disagree with ‘not doing it in the past’.
Apologies - I meant for us , not his previous years .

By the way - I do admit that the chances of Raul re discovering his previous form are getting smaller as each week progresses and nothing happens .

Bouba out for 1-2 months. Massive blow.

We were already in for another midfielder. Does that mean we now want two?

Daley Blind signing for Bayern. So that's one suggestion that isn't going to happen now.

Wonder if Boubacar’s injury changes anything for us. Lemina seems to be a target for that advanced midfield position but short term may need another so we don’t end up using Hodge?

Really hope by the West Ham game we’ve signed a centre back and midfielder

Those are the main two positions for me too.

With the Costa experiment not really working out, Raul out in the cold, Sasa crocked, and Fabio not coming back or ever likely to make it in the Prem anyway, how would we feel about trying to bring in Danny Ings in an attempt to help us score a few goals? Short term answer, maybe, but worth a punt if the price is right?

I think we need two CMs and a CB ideally. With Joao going in the Summer, and the obvious uncertainty over Neves and Nunes I want to see a creative midfielder who's also capable in 10, as well as a Bouba type energetic 8. In the ideal world we'd get another dedicated front man too, as I see Cunha more likely being used as Hwang upgrade

With the Costa experiment not really working out,
Is experiment the right word here?

A combination of poor work in previous windows and then a huge stroke of bad luck left us with limited options. Carry on with no forward or bring in someone without a club outside of a transfer window. The freebie options were somewhat limited

Off the pitch he will also have his uses as he seems to be best buds with Cunha, so helping him settle in sooner. Would expect Cunha to replace him in the 11 and if Raul is being marked as no longer of use, another forward to come in and Diego just becomes that pain in the arse to come off the bench for the last 10-15 mins.

Why is Lemina our target for the advanced role? I might be misremembering but at Fulham I thought he mostly played deep to shield the defence and drive the ball forward. His attacking output isn't very good.

The way we are set up currently I think he’d be the one pressing like Moutinho has been? In possession another player who can travel with the ball, which is what I kinda picture him as being quite good at but I can’t say I have actually watched him that many times

We need a centre back , a midfielder to replace B Trarore and another forward .

Another forward - why - well Raul didn't come on last night , no sign of Guedes , Adama doesn't want to play it seems , then we have Sasa , Fabio and Neto not available . Hwang tries hard but does not have a goal in him .

I'm still holding out hope for Raul - but I really thought he's make an appearance last night .
