I dont want to carry it on (again) but the talk is as if were signing Ebanks-Landell.

Doc wasn't great at Spurs under Mourinho but also wasn’t miles out of his depth like is being suggested.
He was atrocious.

Go back and watch his "performance" when we beat them 2-0 away under Lage.

Beyond awful.

Sky 6 level team starting RB. Absolutely not.

Bottom half team, cheap HG back up. Maybe.

He’s less relevant than Dan Bentley.

No point signing him then. May as well keep Hoever.
Id agree. But there must be a reason. Maybe it makes better financial sense to try and get money back for Hoever, or he has an attitude problem, or he wants to leave or JL thinks he’s worse.

It's not been an acceptable state of affairs when Hwang has been our de facto back-up striker, because a) he's technically very poor and b) he can't play as a striker, certainly not on his own.

Doherty is just that at right back, he can't play there, never has been able to for anyone at any level, and his defensive failings will never ever get fixed. The whole point of a back up is that they're (by definition) not as good as the first choice but in the event of loss of form/fatigue/injury/suspension you don't have a problem if they play a few games. I would absolutely have a problem with Matt Doherty starting any Premier League game as a right back as he's shit.

It's not a signing that's in any way fit for purpose.

Don't agree. If we sign him he will play. Semedo won't play every game and he's sure to get a run out in the cup.
RB less important position than GK though. And if he’s “attrocious” “out of his depth” “abysmal” then he wont play.

Perhaps he won’t, but I’d be more confident of that never happening if we didn’t actually own him.

Then why sign him?

No point buying a player that bad. It'll take him half a season to get fit having never played at Atleti.

Of course it is. But its probably the most fudgeable postion on the pitch.

This just isn't true. All positions are as important as each other. It isn't a Sunday league team. Cancelo, Walker, TAA are all hugely important to the success of their teams. Just as left backs are.

It is also likely lop will rely on his full backs for width and delivery. Hugely important position.

Our full backs in 2003/04 were Denis Irwin who should have retired before that season and Lee Naylor.

Try telling me that didn't really matter and didn't contribute to us conceding 77 goals. You should never be thinking "that'll do", especially when it obviously won't.

Given a choice I’d rather my RB be league 1 standard than my GK. Thats just my opinion. If you dont agree then fair enough.
