The Incoming Transfers Everywhere Thread: Summer 2023

Early in the season Everton's back 4 sat really deep and he was doing ok, as you would expect. At one point a lot of praise for his partnership with Tarkowski.
However, as Everton are a bit shit they struggled as we did for goals. So Frank got the defence to push up to try and get them playing more higher up the pitch....end result, Coady being done by anything played over him.
That and instead of engaging an attacker with the ball on the edge of the box backpeddling to stand either in front of the keeper or on the goal line. A complaint I can identify with

On Boly and this is really being picky.

He didn't refuse to play as such, he refused to sit on the bench as he knew the bid from Forest was in and I don't think its a huge jump here to say, because of his relationship with Lage he forced his way out. A different manager and the outcome is probably different.
Not a fan of what he did but I know why players do it. I wish he had gone properly but if you think you are about to be stuck listening to a manager you don't respect for another 4 months you do what you have to do.
We only know this because of Lage's unique man management skillset. In reality Dawson probably did something very similar last weekend, just handled differently

Got sympathy with the club here - why the fuck should we increase our offer if they had accepted one previously?

Obvs I hope we still get him but sounds like we're having to deal with some proper pieces of work at Flamengo.

Maybe we can sweeten the deal slightly by offering less installments. Maybe 3 or 4 instead of 5. I'm sure a compromise can be reached.

Yep, or front load it a bit (though this is probably what we're trying to avoid). Or adjust performance/appearance fee triggers, if there are any. Chuck a sell-on in, maybe.

There should be a way to make it work.

Main one being the selling club stop acting like cocks I guess
I'd be a little surprised if they haven't thought about sending Hobbs over. Lyon sent someone to deal in person - might be enough to swing it. Lost touch of how many times I've heard sales recount how they got a deal over the line with the personal touch.

Not that there won't be hyperbole and/or bs in there, but it could do the trick.

I don't think there is much more we can do to be honest, apart from try to communicate with the club, which at one point they were ignoring us. Could end up with Hobbs outside the stadium shouting "don't you know who I am" . No clue if he was over there for the final stages of the deal or had met with them before.

Done all the communication we can with them, to the point they were happy with the deal. Player has been handled well and since the Lyon stuff, JL has spoken with him.

The people from Lyon are there because of links to Brazil and they are looking at more than 1 player

Our business development guy shared a similar sentiment last time I bumped into him, intimating that everyone company can build things to a price but personal relationships can really put you in pole position to get the nod. Meanwhile every project our region has on site is losing money and he hasn't played any part in procuring a single one of them.

Talks a good game though, bless him.

Vickery made an interesting point that the value of young Latin American players tends to fall if they hit 22 without moving to Europe. If he stays at Flamengo they will get less money longer term

Ha, that certainly rings a bell. Blows my mind how much they expense on entertaining to then produce 0 revenue as a result. We *all* need to do more though *rolleyes*

@Kenny The thought of Hobbs camping outside the stadium does tickle me a bit, I have to admit.

Someone obviously he thinks he's doing a good job because he's just been promoted to a 'longer term, more strategic' role, despite the lack of results. To me it just sounds like they've upped his credit card limit and dropped the level of accountability. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I might make a point of trying to discover some business opportunities myself to see if I can best him but knowing this company they'd probably find a reason to pass them up anyway. 🤦🏻‍♂️

Danny ings would have been a good signing i think.someone may have already said that,so apologies if im repeating.
but at the very least would have been interesting even to see if we could have turned him into someone who cant score!

He's gone to West Ham £15 mil, mate on another note Chris Woods has gone on loan at Forest, God knows what number he'll be :)

Felipe surprises me. I figured we’d want one experienced CB, not two. He’s also a bit of a risk
