Boly or Saiss - would love to know what would happened Boly if he had stayed , i.e. would Davis have picked him alongside Collins for his experience or played a back 3 ? would Boly's confidence levels have recovered to previous heights etc. ?
What would JL think of him........would he have turned to him and avoid buying Dawson ?

What would it take to get you to do a job you don't want to do?
your comment suggests that Mendes has massive power , i.e. telling a player its Wolves or nowhere , even though he might not have wanted to come ?
I know Mendes is powerful , but surely a player can exercise other options ?

Don’t go back to an ex (unless it’s Coady).

I'm pleased we have signed Dawson, but i'd much prefer we'd have kept Coady, Saiss and/or Boly.

Boly cost Forest less than Dawson too didn't he?
There seems to be a lot of revisionism regarding these three (and I loved Saiss) every one of them had received their fair share of criticism, Saiss apparently cost us a goal a game, always had a ricket in him, Coady could not play in a four, he wasn't as good as everyone thought he was, could get easily turned every game and Boly was absent and then not the player he was, whether that was long covid or because our Shergar faced prick wasn't taking to him, we'll never know.
Although I'm paraphrasing those were all criticisms levelled at each of them on more than one occasion and it was alluded to that every one of them should have been upgraded and I think that's the point, not that they've gone, just they haven't been adequately replaced

I think that pretty much sums it up.

There's no issue that he isn't a very persuasive person, I doubt he'd get to the position he's in without being so, I would have thought selling the premiership dream wouldn't be too hard, even as a stepping stone to bigger and better things, I think if you massage a footballers ego the rest of him will follow

Big fan of when you get the wind behind your sails and post more than half a line.

Where's the revisionism? You've contradicted yourself by the end of this post.

Selling/loaning those 3 without replacing them was a mistake, no one would really say otherwise would they? So what's the revision?

That people said they were no good for us anymore just possibly? It’s hardly rocket science to work out what the post means

I think he's just saying that there were a lot of people on the bandwagon that Boly/Saiss/Coady were spent forces and we needed to improve or bin them off for a while. Easy to look at it in hindsight now and to say we should have kept at least one of them, but that's only happening because we haven't signed a decent replacement.

Or at least, that was my reading of it.

No issue with moving on from all of them for the reasons Paul hyperbolically paraphrases. The problem wasn't them leaving as such (although the Coady deal is laughable), it was not replacing them and going into a season with Toti and Mosquera our 3rd and 4th choice options.

Incidently have a read of Grand Old Team, it's fair to say Coady's role as a defender in a 4 is being significantly questioned, many saying he shouldn't start...Boly is currently injured again.

Early in the season Everton's back 4 sat really deep and he was doing ok, as you would expect. At one point a lot of praise for his partnership with Tarkowski.
However, as Everton are a bit shit they struggled as we did for goals. So Frank got the defence to push up to try and get them playing more higher up the pitch....end result, Coady being done by anything played over him.

I fell for the Kilman love in. I’ll admit that. Appeared to have everything, was dominant in the air, good on the ball, quickest of our lot and was showing the aggression he hadn’t previously.

Sadly in a 4 he has been found out as his positional sense isn’t good enough and has lost some of that aggression which I can only put down to confidence. But in all fairness he was better against West Ham.

I loved Saiss and he was solid, good on the ball and value for a goal. Could he have been upgraded on playing in a high line, absolutely. Has it happened - yes (Collins).

Coady is shit. Simple

Boly refused to play, was injured constantly and likewise wasn’t suited to a high line.

Basically this.

I’ll also add that just because some people said something on the internet, doesn’t mean it was correct or the widely held view. It’s taken till about this season for most to work out that Semedo is useless in the attacking third

On Boly and this is really being picky.

He didn't refuse to play as such, he refused to sit on the bench as he knew the bid from Forest was in and I don't think its a huge jump here to say, because of his relationship with Lage he forced his way out. A different manager and the outcome is probably different.
Not a fan of what he did but I know why players do it. I wish he had gone properly but if you think you are about to be stuck listening to a manager you don't respect for another 4 months you do what you have to do.
