The " Honey I'm home and I'm bloody starving , what's for dinner " Thread.

I'm being forced to eat frugally today as I had a tooth out this morning.

Dinner is Creamy Mash with Fish in a Cheese Sauce. I can't wait - I'm starving!

I'm not allowed peas or sweetcorn though - the dentist says they may rest in the gap!

Steaks tonight. Nice and healthy for SWMBO, and gloriously decadent for my fat bastard self.

I was thinking of doing something like that - she's expecting a Pot Noodle and a bowl of strawberry jelly. Or me me to say 'fuck it - I'll phone up the Dilshad'.

Bollocks to the slow cooker Langers - Ring The Dishad!!

Was at work on a 13 hour shift yesterday, so it was hot dogs. Quick & minimal mess.

Not decided what to have tonight. Possibly fish dusted with lemon & pepper. Not sure what to have with that yet...

With some veg? A distinct possibility my esteemed young lady friend.

Pretty sure cheese and fish aren't the greatest combination ever.

Fish regularly has cheese sauce with it, doesn't it?

Guess it depends on the type of fish though.

DW your dinners must be proper bummy and boring :(

Not really, I just know which groups complement each other. Mint sauce doesn't go with white meat for instance. And cheese sauce would overpower most fish.

I'm having Shepherd's Pie later but I'm not going to lamp a jar of Branston Pickle over it like a maniac. Wrecking meals with ridiculous sauces isn't 'interesting'!

But mint sauce DOES go with white meat. You also need mint sauce on sheperds pie, not branston pickle.

I said cheesy mash, not cheese sauce poured over the actual fish. Or mash and salad cream mixed in would be ok too with fish. I cant help it if I like me condiments:)

If having conventional taste buds and sticking with what world renowned chefs say is boring then I guess it is boring. Though I do save thousands of pounds a year on not buying massive vats of sauces. :)

Mint sauce unequivocally does not go with white meat at all. Salad cream doesn't go with anything, other than a wall and some wallpaper.

Cheese sauces are fine with most white firm fleshed fish, and also with some shellfish, especially in a fish pie. I wouldn't slam gorgonzola all over it, but a mild cheddar sauce should be delightful.

Agree, shellfish and cheese sauce is wonderful.
