The " Honey I'm home and I'm bloody starving , what's for dinner " Thread.

I've tried most I think, when i was younger i did eat them but now they just don't appeal to me at all, though it's texture as much as taste on many. Carrots and peas i'll eat raw but dislike both when cooked, other than that it's pretty much a no across the board.
I just cant imagine not having me veggies. So you would just have meat and mash on a dinner ?

My wife doesn't eat any fruit or vegetables. It's a texture thing with her that has turned into a bit of a phobia. She'll eat veggies if they're blended in a soup and she'll drink fruit juice but she'd freak if she had to eat an actual fruit.

She cooks them though as the daughter and I love our fruit and veg!

Not necessarily mash but meat and potatoes or some kind yeah, not my meal of choice it has to be said.

Not sure if ive asked you this before( cant remember ) what is your favorite meal, or favourite thing to eat and you can't say' I don't have a favourite anything ' :)

Your wife sounds like a keeper.

Hmmm, genuinely not sure, maybe pulled pork at a push. There's a guy from Cheslyn Hay who runs a small BBQ type food stall that i've seen at a couple of food events and his stuff is just ridiculous, smoked for something like 16 hours.

Love pulled pork too, on a cob with a dollop of coleslaw on top. I know, I spoilt it at the end there didn't I!I Recently bought a Smoker, but not gotten round to using it yet.

Favourite meal is either:

Sausage and mash with onion gravy (and mint sauce).

Chicken Chasseur with mash and carrots.

I'm a simple guy who likes simple food.

I was soooooooooo tempted to buy an American style smoker in the build up to last year's world cup BBQ. Wanted to try American style slow smoking barbecue method for years. Sling a fucking great brisket in when you get up in the morning and it is ready for tea.

So hard to choose an absolute favourite. I love both of those choices, although would probably prefer going coq au vin to chasseur, but it is close.

It is actually pretty hard to beat a cracking lobster. Thermidor is ace, but sometimes just simply grilled with butter, garlic and lemon juice is heaven.

Fish chips and mushy peas would be mine.

Do you like curries ?

Its knowing what wood to use too, for best flavours. Love the idea that you just put it in, walk away, and hours later you have a cracking piece of meat. I bought mine after watching an American Cook Out Competition.

Curries are nice as long as it's not too hot. For one thing I find too much heat masks the flavour, and also it upsets my stomach.

Used to like mine hot but these days it gives me really bad heartburn and a sore bottom.

A lot of the blurb I have seen seems to recommend hickory. Not a subject I know anything about though. An item for research should I ever get a smoker (which is hugely unlikely now as the expense versus the fleeting British summer is not a good deal for me)

Or Oak with apple or cherry sounds good too. Something to experiment with in the upcoming Summer months.

Oh yes - long smoked pulled pork can be absolutely fantastic.

This is the twitter of the guy in Cheslyn Hay - @andylownslow - there's plenty of pictures on there to get the juices flowing.

His food is fantastic, I had his pulled pork last year at some food market in Digbeth then went to something over Birmingham this weekend where me and my girlfriend shared a pull pork bun and a brisket chilli with bacon bun too, both fantastic and the brisket chilli had a hell of a kick to it. I'd recommend anyone try his food if you're ever about when he's doing his thing, he's doing a night at some place in Cannock in March which my girlfriend got tickets to but I think that's sold out now though, he did some stuff with Brewdog in Birmingham last year too which I think he might be doing again soon but that's just the odd Friday or Saturday here and there.

I'm giving this a go this summer on my BBQ

Just checked out his Twitter...looks very tasty. I love a bit of proper BBQ. Will have to look out for him in Birmingham.

Just tucking into a home made Chilli con carni. I have some tiny but deadly red peppers grown locally, they are great, but i will pay for them in the morning.

When i lived in Memphis it was hickory all the way for barbies and smokers. I used to buy it in bags for the barbie when i lived in blighty, but that's a long long time ago, so no idea if they still sell em.
