The " Honey I'm home and I'm bloody starving , what's for dinner " Thread.

Always on a Friday :D

Why bother cooking them? Why not just eat it as it is? It won't taste as nice but you don't seem to be bothered with that anyway.

You're losing it here. For the avoidance of doubt I like food to be cooked. Once cooked I do not feel the need to lamp a million condiments on top of it. If you do need to do that then either a) it is cooked appallingly b) you have no tastebuds c) both a) and b).

Chips smothered in piccallili are also rather lovely, on a crusty bread sandwich :)

Never tried chips and piccalilli. An interesting one.

Not everything needs to stand on its own without embellishment. Recipes contain dozens of ingredients. Adding something to the plate on top is essentially just another ingredient.

:icon_lol:

It really, really isn't.

My flatmate bought some fresh veg yesterday from her college. It's £5 a bag, locally sourced, and you do get a fair amount.

But there's one vegetable in the bag that we cannot identify.

It's about 1 foot long, very wide, very heavy, with a short stalk at one end. It's a faint yellow colour.

What might it be, and what should we do with it?

It is! A butternut squash, apparently. I'd better get busy bookmarking some recipes.

Thanks.

I sautéed one with some garlic and sage last week and it was tremendous.

That's one possibility.

Or... We got some pak choi in the bag as well. I might attempt a Nigella Lawson Thai curry recipe that combines the pak choi and the butternut squash.

It's also nice just cut into big chunks and roasted in the oven with a sprinkle of olive oil ,salt and pepper .

Ooh that sounds good! Might have to find that recipe myself.

I love the stuff. You can't really go wrong with it.

It's like a sweet potato, kind of.

It's delicious, just a bugger to prepare!

Stuffed myself at an all you can eat buffet for lunch so just a snack for dinner tonight. Cheese & pickle sandwich with a slice of pork pie. No sauce or condiments were used (unless you're counting the pickle on the sandwich).
